IBT was founded in October, 1994 at Dreamcon in Everett, Washington.

Vision – To organize and host themed, LARP (live-action role-playing) room parties, commonly known as slave auctions, for responsible & adult attendees of Northwest science-fiction/fantasy conventions such as Norwescon and Rustycon.

Timbucks – In order to facilitate a LARP slave auction we design, print and distribute our own currency, called Timbucks. This is the only currency recognized by our auctioneer.

Timbucks may be earned by guests in a number of ways, some for example being: offering goods or services to our bank desk, fulfilling scavenger hunt type requirements we post as one of our Shifters, engaging in spontaneous and/or well-played LARPing, winning prize-timbucks at a casino night or other gaming tournament we're hosting, earning a 'salary' as an IBT staff member, logging volunteer hours for the convention under the IBT name, exchanging other con-currencies from a third party, or even volunteering yourself (or a close friend!) to be sold on the block to the highest bidder at our main event...

Details – The Intergalactic Bank of Timbuktu, or IBT, is a not-for-profit club. Our auctions are strictly invitation-only room parties, but our doors are open to legal adults with ID for much of the rest of the convention, permitting guests to explore the opportunities we offer to earn Timbucks, engage in loose LARPing or just to hang out.

Auction attendees are restricted to IBT staff, selected 'slaves', a limited number of 'buyers', and any IBT special guests. All guests must be at least 18 and present valid ID in order to enter all IBT room parties and events. All participants must agree to and sign a LARP acknowledgment form stating that they're willing participants and are free to 'opt-out' at any time.

Other Activities – IBT hosts many other types of parties and social events as well. We're always looking for new recruits to our league of Shifters, a group of LARP bounty hunters whom we authorize to engage in scavenger hunt type games we organize. And we frequently host Timbuck poker and blackjack nights, board game tournaments, and other gaming events.
