March 2006 saw I Say Marvin perform for the first time at the unprepossessing Swan in Truro and by the end of their jaw-dropping set, everyone present knew they had witnessed something very special.
During the ensuing months, the band thrilled audiences throughout the South West with their particular brand of funked-up pop, gaining fans and plaudits alike. After their appearance at the Ripcurl Unleashed Festival, supporting The Automatic and Feeder, local press described them as “the most vital band in the South West."
Friends from schooldays in Penzance, Sam Power (lead vocals, guitar), Tom Weeks (bass, vocals) and Ashley Matthews (guitar, keys) teamed up with like-minded Jonny Halliday (keys) and Jim Preston-Evans (drums) whilst all studying at Truro College.
Tired of the po-faced blatherings of their contemporaries, I Say Marvin set out their dance floor manifesto with a withering combination of wit and drama – lyrically incisive, musically irresistible.
Autumn found them entering the studio with friend and producer, Hugh Jones (Echo & The Bunnymen, Dodgy, Hope of The States), to record four songs that resulted in MySpace log-jam and radio plays on Radio 1 and Xfm, with Steve Lamacq tipping them as one of THE bands for 2007.
The band will be returning to the studio very soon to record some new material so keep checking back here for updates.

is there any reason in the CLMA Whale Song video Sam's voice sounds way more 'city' like, as though he had actually spent all his life in the harshest of urban environments (no Penzance does not count as that).
Has Sam had special Margaret Thatcher voice training to get rid of his usual rural southern standard sounding twang? Or is this just a natural occurance when you record Sam's voice with a video camera?
You're online! Yay ^__^ How are you guys? I miss you! :( I was watching the video just then of you guys at the CLMA and at the end you can hear me scream :P. I'm gonna have to catch another one of your gigs xD
