About Iskra String Quartet

Iskra means 'a spark to ignite everything'.

Iskra is a group of string players enjoying playing music together regardless of genre. Concerts include performing to thousands of people at the Royal Albert Hall and to 30 people in an old cow shed. They have toured extensively across Europe with award winning Icelandic film/classical composer Johann Johannsson. Whilst other notable performances include work with artists such as Vampire Weekend, Sufjan Stevens and My Brightest Diamond. A recent commission by Radiohead/XL Recordings to officially remix one of the band's songs led to the Nationwide Mercury Music prize website awarding their effort with 'Track of the week'. The quartet's debut classical album entitled 'Sanctuary' was featured on Classical FM.

Iskra are currently working on an EP featuring music by Johann Johannsson, Minotaur Shock and Stars Of The Lid.
