Canada. Good old fashioned kitchen table stories. Imagine you are drinking black tea with canned milk, and it is snowing outside. The kitchen smells like homemade soup, and you don't have to work tomorrow so you can sit up all night talking and smoking cigarettes. Or maybe it is a warm night in the middle of July, and you are sitting on a wool blanket in the sand, resting your back against a big beached log. The lake is smooth as glass and there is plenty of wood for the campfire. Someone is talking, telling you a story.

I was born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. I am the author of six books: Close to Spiderman, One Man's Trash, Loose End, and The Slow Fix, all short story collections, Boys Like Her (along with Lyndell Mongomery, Anna Camilleri and Zoe Eakle), and my first novel, Bow Grip. I also have two CD's out, entitled You're A Nation (2003) and You Are Here (2007 with musician Rae Spoon). I write a monthly column for Vancouver's Xtra West magazine, which is also called Loose End.
I am currently working on a graphic novel, illustrated by my cousin, artist Dan Bushnell, and a CD of live stories with music by the fabulous and magical Veda Hille, the handsome and talented Dan Mangan, the brave and amazing Rae Spoon, and the cello stylings of the one and only Cris Derksen. I am also about halfway through the first draft of my new novel, the working title of which is The Truth About That Man.
In 2007 musician Rae Spoon and I created a one hour show called You Are Here, a series of stories and songs about the Yukon. We released a live CD of the premiere performance of that show in July of 2007, recorded at The Yukon Arts Centre in Whitehorse.
I am a full time writer and performer, and I haven't worked a day job in almost six years. In my spare time I like to play road hockey,go fishing, garden, knit, and do leatherwork. I dream of buying an old airstream trailer and tricking it out to take my girlfriend on road trips, and of owning my very own old house one day. I like campfires, kitchen table stories, good books and home cooking. I believe in miracles and hard work.

Hi Ivan, love your stories. I have been to a couple of your shows but haven't seen any new ones coming up in a loooong time. Are you planning on doing something soon? Please?

I got an older edition at the bus stop for on the way home while trying to find reading material cause my ipod was dead and there you were again! I thought it was neat, after stealing your books from Mum to read ,I got to bring her home your articles to read...which reminds me they're still in my bagg :s
Gracias Ivan, Can't wait to read your newer stuff. Still have a Docutech copy of Boys Like Her, which everyone I know attempts to steal! Peace, and best to you
You words are salve to our abraded hearts, giving us moments of comfort and laughter and tears in equal parts. We really need you down here in the states. We don't deserve you, but we sure need you. Hope the holidays leave you relatively unscathed.
