Growing up in New Zealand I was always a huge Crowded House Fan, listening to the radio and learning there songs from song books. I have always loved great pop songs and use to stayed tuned everyweek to see my favourite clips on RTR ie Cindy Lauper,Crowded House,U2 , Boy George, Susan Vega.
I started singing country music when I was very young and always loved Pasty Cline,Dolly Parton,Willie Nelson,The Judds,Linda Ronstadt, Eagles and I use to sing songs with my younger sister Katrina in country music festivals around New Zealand.
I have always had a love of Motown and Soul Music, I think because of the maori influence in New Zeland this is a big part of my roots and taste in music.
I started writing songs in my teens and this was when I discovered artist like Rickee Lee Jones and Neil Finn and Bonnie Raitt. Once I moved to Sydney/Australia in 1995 I discovered Joni Mitchell, The Band, Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Shawn Colvin, Daniel Lanois. I fell in love with these singers and songwriters and I think this has had a big infulence on my songs to date.
In recent years I have loved Artists and Bands such as David Grey, Travis, Coldplay, Sheryl Crow, Patty Griffin and Eva Cassidy.
I aspire to be an artist of real intregrity like all of my hero's and influences. I think I have been influenced by a wide range of artist and styles of music. Growing up in New Zealand gave me a huge grounding in music and it is such a musical country.
After signing a production deal with Sydney based label Craving Records, Jackie Bristow set about to record her album Crazy Love with mixer/engineer Helik Hadar (Rufus Wainwright, Madelein Peyroux, Joni Mitchell) and producer/engineer Mark Howard (Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams, Marianne Faithfull, Sheryl Crow). With an incredible lineup of musicians including Australia's finest guitarist Mark Punch (Renee Geyer) along with international luminaries Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell), Larry Goldings (James Taylor), Tim Pierce (Rod Stewart, Tom Petty), Jay Bellarose (Aimee Mann), Zak Rae (Alanis Morissette) and more, the result has been a tour de force of stunning new material and a fresh new sound.
Jackie Bristow recently secured the support for legendary producer/guitarist/ composer Daniel Lanois on his recent Australian tour of April 2006. The run of shows took place in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
Relocating from New Zealand to Sydney, Australia in 1995, Jackie worked tirelessly for five years, writing songs, recording demos and performing across the city, all the while developing her own voice. A break came when her demo reached Michael Gudinski Management, resulting in a publishing deal with Mushroom Music and a recording contract with Gudinskis Liberation Records.
Since then, Jackie Bristow has released several singles and an acclaimed album, Thirsty in 2002. She recorded Thirsty in LA, Nashville and Sydney with a host of collaborators including Jackies long time friend, acclaimed Australian songwriter, guitarist and producer, Mark Punch (Renee Geyer), Grammy Award winning producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Shawn Colvin) and producer David Leonard (Prince, The Bangles). Renowned songwriting team, The Matrix (Christine Aguilera, Avril Lavinge) worked with Jackie on one of Thirstys tracks, while much of the album was co-produced by Matt Fell, one half of Sydney songwriting duo, Butterfly 9.
Winner of the Song For Australia Competition held by Tourism Australia for their upcoming international campaign to promote Australia to the world, Jackies song This is Australia will be used in consumer and trade promotions worldwide. QANTAS is playing This Is Australia, on every domestic and incoming international flight into Australia as of February 2005 and is featured on their inflight entertainment DVD, and Japan Airlines is playing the song and DVD on every single flight as of July 1st 2005.
Jackie has toured with Daniel Lanois, Art Garfunkel, and supported local legends such as Wendy Matthews, Renee Geyer, Bic Runga, Mark Seymour, The Whitlams and The Badloves and Scottish band Capercaille. At once heartfelt and sophisticated, Jackie Bristow combines subtle but beautiful melodies and hooks that hypnotise the listener, demand complete surrender and then stick around with the backbone of a real friend..
Hey Jackie, vielen Dank and thanks so much for adding and supporting WIDE MONO, you are awesome. Don't forget to tell your friends about us ;-) WIDE MONO, sending best regards from Germany.
Hi there Jackie, just wanted to say thanks for your music. It's hugely inspirational to me. I met you a few years ago now at Sam Hawksley's Bridge Hotel Songwriters gig and you asked me why I "wasn't a songwriter ???" At that point I wasn't but I got there eventually and dabbled a bit. I have a feeling just that one question from you really set me off and running !!! Anyway, what I guess I'm trying to say is that you can reach out and really effect your fans in all sorts a ways. I'm eternally greatful and of course you might not even remember that comment - too funny ! Can't wait to catch you supporting Wendy M soon. cheers, Warren x
