Interests

  • General

Writing; reading; family; cooking; pottering in the garden; talking to people
  • Music

Light classical, like Tchaikovsky; Rimsky Korsakov; songs from musicals, from Rogers and Hammerstein to Chigago, via West Side Story, Cabaret and Fiddler on the Roof.
  • Movies

Some old black and white movies - they really had a story. Chicklit, like ''You've got mail' with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, almost a direct copy of a 1930s film with James Stewart (?Shop on the corner). Films which move me, like 'Ordinary People'. Enchanting stuff like Roman Holiday.
  • Television

Murder mysteries: All old Morses, Frosts and Foyles' Wars. The more tongue in cheek Midsummer Murders and Agatha Christies, though Poirot is better than Miss Marple. Frasier and MASH; Casualty, Silent Witness and some of the cold case type dramas. Old classics like Pride and Prejudice. And Rumpole of the Bailey. Thank goodness for all the repeats on Sky.
  • Books

Good reads, but not too intellectual. Recent favourites, Cold Comfort Farm, Future Housewives of America, Daniel Deronda, Brick Lane.
  • Heroes

I'm too cynical to have heroes.

About me:

Like all women, apparently, I'm multi-skilled and have a dual identity. As the little woman at home, I run my husband's business in an extraordinarily efficient way, typing, bookkeeping, dealing with telephone calls and chasing non-paying customers. But my other identity is far more interesting, as I've been writing for the past twenty five years at least, and have published three books. One - a self-help book - is out of print now, but the others are available. The Fruit of the Tree is a true story of me and mine. A Bottle of Plonk is fiction - about, well, about a bottle of wine, would you believe, which is taken from one story to another. A Bottle of Plonk has also been published in America under the name, Have Wine Will Travel. My most recent book came out in May 2008, and is the story of American adoptee, Addie, who is left a house in Surrey, and visits England in a search for her roots and her identity. I write under the name of Jacquelynn Luben and apart from my books I write articles and short stories.Read more about me at my website: http://freespace.virgin.net/jackie.luben where you'll find much more detailed information, or on my blog: http://jackieluben.blogspot.com/

Who I'd like to meet:

People who are interested in reading and writing and the way people tick.

Thanks, Jackie. Moving was an experience to say the least. LOL. And I always love to say hi to other authors but it's especially nice to say hi to those who like me who are from the UK. Sx
