About me: Producer and DJ, Jacques Renault, was a post-punk Washington D.C. native who moved to Chicago in 1997 to continue his studies of viola, but in turn got an education in dance music. Tapping into the well established Drum n' Bass scene, he held a residency at Smart Bar and became a buyer at the legendary Gramaphone Records. This broad, raw exposure to House lead him straight back to the classics of Disco and to it's heart, New York City, where he landed in 2002. His distinct sound and ability to gage his audience has made Jacques a stand-out amongst his peers in the elite, international sphere of electronic music. He has performed everywhere from the Guggenheim's Art After Dark to Berlin's Rio Club - even gracing the pages of Paper Magazine's 2007 Beautiful People. Recently voted as Best NYC DJ for Paper's Night Life Awards, Jacques has held residencies at New York's famed venues Happy Endings, APT, Tribeca Grand to 205 Club, showcasing an impressive line-up of weekly guest DJs. Along with friends at DFA Records, Jacques is pushing the New York disco conscious sweep into what's next. With his remixes, edits, original tracks and collaborative project RUNAWAY he has released music on internationally acclaimed New York labels DFA, Chinatown, Italians Do It Better, Editions Disco, and Wurst Edits as well as Parisian imprint I'm A Cliché and London/Berlin's Rekids. He is also starting a new venture producing tracks for Brooklyn's own The Hundred In The Hands, formerly known as The Boggs. Along with getting coveted spots on the Glimmers' Eskimo mix and the Lindstrom and Prins Thomas BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, Mr. Renault appears regularly on Beats In Space, EVR and contributes a weekly show, Runaway Disco, to VIVA Radio. Third release for the label which has been revolutionizing the Italian electronic and underground dance scene: after the winter floorfiller “No Rulez Ep” signed by Skyboy and Edo Pietrogrande (just to name a few Dubfire, Loco Dice, 2000 and One, Sis, Raresh…have literally gone mad for Without by Skyboy), 7 oz Records is coming out with a killer summer dancefloor hit: “Donde estas y donde vas”, produced by Edo Pietrogrande, friend and veteran of the label.
The original version is oriented towards a retro style, with horns à la Marshall Jefferson, a dry and hypnotic voice, howlings like Souljazz Records and lots of groove in a jacking house style which at times brings back tech-house sounds so ever-popular in the late 90’s. The remix, expertly produced by David Keno (Keno Records, Kindisch) is, and will be, the soundtrack to many after parties, clear and fresh.. it brings forth images of smiles. “L’amour” is the romantic side of the ep, you won’t find it hard to recognize the voice, in the deep and languid version where Edo has successfully evoked a latin atmosphere, hot and sensual
