The Wallflowers Return with Collected: 1996-2005
'Collected' Captures Hits Plus Unreleased Tracks Band Returns For Extensive US Summer Tour
Mixing introspective singer-songwriter sensibilities with a commitment to genuine roots rock, The Wallflowers have released five studio albums, sold more than eight million copies of their catalog, topped the Billboard charts, scored a multiplatinum album, several Modern Rock hits, two Grammy® awards and a legion of fans. The Wallflowers will release a 'retrospective' set entitled Collected: 1996-2005 on June 16, 2009 (Interscope/UMe). The disc brings together fourteen of the Los Angeles group's hit songs - from their 1996 breakthrough quadruple platinum album Bringing Down The Horse all the way through to their most recent full-length, 2005's critically acclaimed Rebel, Sweetheart - plus two unreleased tracks.
With leader Jakob Dylan overseeing its production and compiling the track list, the 16-selection Collected: 1996-2005 is the definitive look at a critically-acclaimed favorite of the past decade, whose tales of disillusionment and perseverance were wrapped in a sound both gritty and polished, melancholy and aggressive.
An extensive U.S. summer tour will begin in mid-June and last through August.
After a 1992 major label album, The Wallflowers broke through with 1996's Bringing Down The Horse, produced by the renowned T-Bone Burnett with the Top 10 Modern Rockers "One Headlight" (1), "6th Avenue Heartache" (which guested Adam Duritz of Counting Crows), and "The Difference," plus the Top 20 track "Three Marlenas." Collected: 1996-2005 also includes "Invisible City" from the same album. <
Reaching 4 on the charts and certified quadruple-platinum, Bringing Down The Horse spun off Grammys for "One Headlight" for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Rock Song. For 1997, its video was voted 1 on VH1 and 5 on MTV.
The follow-up, 2000's (Breach), went to 13 and Gold, with the Top 40 Modern Rock "Sleepwalker." Collected: 1996-2005 also includes its "Letters From The Wasteland," "Hand Me Down," and "I've Been Delivered." 2002's Red Letter Days, which spotlighted Dylan on lead guitar, reached Top 40. Culled for Collected: 1996-2005 are "When You're On Top," "How Good It Can Get," and "Closer To You." One of the collection's bonus tracks, "Eat You Sleeping," was originally recorded in 1999 for (Breach) but never released.
The Wallflowers' final Interscope album, 2005's Rebel, Sweetheart again was Top 40. Produced by Brendan O'Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam), the album featured "The Beautiful Side Of Somewhere" and "God Says Nothing Back," whose demo version is also included as the second previously-unreleased bonus track.
In addition to recording and touring with the Wallflowers, Dylan has also launched his solo career, releasing his debut album, Seeing Things, in June 2008.
