James Leon combines electro sounds with interesting lyrics, and great pop hooks; encapsulated in a sharp, engaging, aesthetic which has a sense of style but isn’t afraid to show its heart.
He was recently nominated for artist of 2008/9 by the website www.electroqueer.com, who said his songs “just keep getting better and better’’ and described James as ‘’shaping up as pop force to be reckoned with’’.
The track ‘Never been cool’ has become a real favourite, particularly live and is gathering momentum as a future anthem for all those who have ever felt like a geek, an outsider or just like they can’t quite get things right.
There’s a sense of humour on songs like ‘Camera shy’ – which parodies but secretly celebrates the frivolity of celebrity, and ‘Club with no name’ which mocks self-consciously cool East End clubs yet joyfully conveys the fun of throwaway nightlife. “It’s almost impossible to describe how bloody amazing this track is” said Paul Reynolds of music blog http://myfizzypop.blogspot.com/
Then there’s the pure emotion and heartbreak of the atmospeheric ‘Better than the night’. New song ‘Purple heart’ is an enigmatically moody dance anthem, with a magnificent pop hook, and has been called the best James Leon song yet.
James is a great live performer, venues he has played at include London clubs including, Trash Palace, Soho Review Bar, Electroqueer@Barcode , Café de Paris, Tesco Disco@Hedges and Butler, and The Glitz at Madame jojo’s and really needs to be seen on stage to be appreciated as an act.
