My name is James Vincent McMorrow.
I started this journey about 3 years ago, when i took my first songs, chiselled in oak, placed them gently in a basket and floated them down a river.
The basket travelled for 2 years, passing through many different hands, some good, some bad, through distant lands and far flung homes. When i had the energy to run i would catch the basket, added new songs to it, only to catch it again later in it’s path and throw many of them away. At times it lost it’s way, as i lost my way, got bogged down in reed beds and muddy banks.
At the start of 2009 the basket reached the sea. By now it had lost most of it’s contents to the growing waves, but the lessons learned had remained intact. I brought what was left to a house nearby, and for 5 months i sat with it, built new structures around it, new melody, new lyric. Finally i could see the songs becoming exactly what i’d always wanted them to be. I recorded every day on my own, until one day i stopped and realized i had 11 songs that were the best that i could make them.
Those songs are now collected on my debut record, which will be out very soon. For the rest of my life i’ll try and remember the lessons i learned on the journey that got me here, but on the off chance that they were to slip my mind, this album will remind me always.
