ABOUT US!!!

As well as being home to York's Access to Music course, Jam Factory Studios is also in the hub of York's music scene, providing rehearsal space for many of York's finest bands of the past, present and the future!

Jam Factory Studios has been favoured by Shed Seven, Chris Helme (of The Sea Horses) and Colour Of Fire, to name but a few. The Jam Factory is situated a short walk from the city centre and has convenient access by bus, road or rail.

Facilities include four fully-equipped sound-proofed rehearsal rooms, a small but perfectly-formed studio, technology loft and seminar room, as well as a comfortable chill-out area with vending facilities. The centre is handy for local amenities including sandwich shops and St Johns College.

Jam Factory Studios is at the heart of Yorks thriving music scene which features a plethora of venues small and large catering to every taste in music. The centre has excellent links with local venues, music industry, press and schools as well as youth organisations such as The Princes Trust, Future Prospects and Connexions etc.

The York centre prides itself on its range of enrichment activities which include regular performance opportunities, pop video projects, music journalism, work experience with local industry contacts and the opportunity to work on the press team which produces our in-house magazine Toast. These are in addition to ATMs diverse range of enrichments.

CHRIS (Chris Humphreys) - Plays bass for local band The Stanleys. Owner of the Jam Factory and fixer of all things technical. He is constantly multi-tasking as a plumber/carpenter/electrician and general all-rounder. Great guy and bringer of the all singing all dancing new vending machine!

JANE (Jane Humphreys) - We really don't know where we'd be without her, well, we'd be under a mountain of paperwork, guaranteed!
Centre Manager, teacher of key skills and bringer of the hippy-vibe, is there no end to her powers??

CHARLIE (Charles Daykin) - Our glorious leader! Fondly known as Sir Charles of the Daykin. King of the keys and teacher of all things historical and business-esque.
Centre Manager and all round genuinely nice guy.

FODA. (Paul Fothergill) - Our bass tutor and bringer of the funk. Bass player for Blue Nun, currently touring with Allistair Griffin and looking forward to a 2009 tour with Undercut.

KATE (Kate Lohan) - Vocals and performance skills tutor and marketing queen bee. Is also the lead singer of 'The Agents'.

MASTER SPLINTER. (Tim Downie) - Guitar, recording and programming tutor, used to be in the world music band Banoffi, previously part of town boys Parthian Shot. Tim currently writes some bangin' Dubstep and is out resident studio/live engineer. What he doesn't know about sound isn't worth knowing.

BARR (Daniel Bowater) - Another new addition this year, he has taken on the daunting task of teaching DJs to play the keyboards as well as composition. A brave man and very talented! Is also in 'The Agents' with our vocal tutor Kate.

PAUL (Paul Walker) - Our fantabulous DJ tutor (also dabbles in all things historical!) He knows all there is to know about scratching...?! Also works as a live DJ with a regular slot in Leeds.

PiXiE (Steph Collinson) - Our little administration elf! Generally knows where anything and everything is and queen Jane's loyal assistant! She teaches music tech and is our much needed technical support....PiXiE is also a vocalist, a producer, and a studio engineer.

MONTY (The dog) - Everybody's favourite puppy and the resident pooch. Chris's pride and joy! We never believed that dogs could smile til we met Monty!

WINGNUT (The kitty) - This hyper ball of ginger fluff is always up for a play but remember, she's only little!

MURPHY (The estranged cat) - Murphy our cat knows what he wants...he disappears for weeks at a time and comes back for food and to look a little smug. He's the king of cool!

BODGER (Our lady pup) - We are sorry to say that Bodger recently passed away, but her memory will forever live on and Monty misses her terribly.

TEDDY (our little pup) - Is the newest edition to our animal kingdom and definitely rules the roost!

InfluencesCollectively the students and tutors from the land of the jam are influenced by far too many artists, DJs and producers to list!
Between us we take influence from every type of music on the planet as we have such a wide range of personalities in the building at any one time!

And in turn we all take influence from each other. We're just on a whole other horizon of musical vibes!
Sounds LikeAnything you want to hear someone here is making it!

Tom Bristow, born in York, 1985, is a trance producer with a major passion for music. Tom first started producing music at the age of 16, when he played around with a program called ‘Hip-Hop E-jay’ and found that it was very limited as you could not make your own riffs and sounds. At this time Dr Dre, Ice Cube, Xzibit and early Hip-Hop artists influenced him. In 2002, Tom met a trance producer, who told him that trance was the way forward and since then Tom has been producing trance. He now uses programs like Fruity Loops, Reason, Ableton Live and Cubase SX. He is currently building up his solo repertoire for several albums, which he plans to send off to record companies and magazines such as Computer Music and Future music for reviews. Tom attends a music college called ‘The Jam Factory’, which is run by Access To Music. At the Jam factory Tom has recorded bands using various programs and undertaken many tasks involving setting up drum kits and guitars with microphones. Also setting up talk back systems, sound checking, mixing & mastering, sound engineering, radio programming and music business/marketin

MASS MOVEMENT - HIP-HOP/DISCO HOUSE

Though Mass Movement have been together for just over 3 years in various line-ups and names this is the first line up that we are unveiling to the public. Mass Movement have always had the same main aims
1) to make people dance
2) to make people more aware of things that are going on in the world/socio-political issues (without being patronising) and hopefully this will show who really has the power.
Mass Movement has recently expanded to include visuals and other art forms. They use a multi-media art to attack the problems to combat the media and the establishments lies and veiled truths!
This includes are VJ Kamikaze Theory (unfortuntly only part time as he's @ Sheffield Uni) and the man behind all Mass Movement graphics, animation and art work Darth Tater!

The Moor Music Festival

Jan 23 2008 12:09 AM

It seems like years since the last Moorfest happened and to be honest I think the weather was very much a factor in whether people enjoyed themselves or not. Some thrived in the mud whilst others wept until their dads could pick them up. Moorfest is still carving an identity for itself and in the three years that it has been established I think I can say that the one thing that most people love about it is the friendly atmosphere, and this gig is a good opportunity to meet up with friends that perhaps you haven't seen since the festival, to make new friends, enjoy quality music, get a flavour of Moorfest if you haven't already been and also to talk to the organisers in order to give your opinions on how to improve the festival.
We'll also be projecting your favourite photos that you've taken from previous Moorfests to create a live mashup that will adorn the walls of the Brudenell so please send them to bandsformoorfest@yahoo.co.uk and make sure that everyone in the picture is cool for you to use them like this.

There'll be much more to boot like gorgeous organic food, t-shirt stall, films and raffles to win tickets to Moorfest 4 which we're working on right now and aim to make it the best yet.

We really appreciate your continued support in making Moorfest what it is and hope to see you all there.

Team Moorfest x
