Retaining the strong socio-political consciousness that characterized his former Boston street-punk band Suspect Device, Bennett created Jason Bennett and The Resistance in order to develop a sound that is more musically diverse – yet still punk in spirit - in order to realize his long-held vision of rock ‘n roll-as-folk music. Whether the band is playing a full-on rock set, or a stripped-down acoustic version, they play with searing conviction at every single show. In Bennett's deft, diverse, and daring songwriting, one hears the influences of Woody Guthrie, The Clash, Billy Bragg, and Bad Brains – to name a few. More and more, Bennett’s songwriting is complemented by the contributions of bassist Ryan Packer and lead guitarist Jim Burke (The Pug Uglies). Drummer Mike McCabe holds it down to synthesize a relentless rhythm section and melodic guitar playing.
The band have been busy on the road for the past year- traveling up and down the east coast and out to the Midwest- they've logged more shows on the road than their home town. Their debut recording, Hope Dies Last was recorded and produced by Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, The Pixies, Billy Bragg) at Camp Street Studios in the winter of 2007 and is available through Teenage Heart Records, iTunes, Rhapsody, eMusic, Napster, Newbury Comics and Interpunck.com
The band plan to be back touring again this spring and to record again this summer. Continuing the inexorable march forward.
They have also been featured on the television show “Sonic Lobotomy;” recorded in Dedham, MA.(Episode2@http://youtube.com/group/soniclobotomy) and in the October issue of Loud, Fast Rules magazine.
Keep an eye out for upcoming shows and if you’d like to be on the mailing list, please email jasonbennett@madcat-productions.com.

Socialist Alternative invites you to a fundraiser this Saturday, July 11th. In the great tradition of Boston working class punk rock, there will be at least two performances from local bands.
It is also noteworthy that this will be one of the last social events at the movement-building space we've all appreciated over the years, the Democracy Center at 45 Mt. Auburn Street in Harvard Square. All Ages and no booze.
Labor Power and Wrong Side of the Tracks will be playing alongside a possible musical guest.
Doors open at 7pm.
There is a five dollar cover charge. Any more that you can donate would be appreciated. This is part of Socialist Alternative' s national July fundraising drive (socialistalternativ e.org)
