Jason van Wyk, born on 10th January 1990, hails from Cape Town, South Africa.
Born into a musical household, Jason always had a great passion for music and knew from an early age that composing and producing was what he wanted to do with his life. At the age of seven, he was introduced to Electronic Dance Music for the first time. This proved to be great inspiration for him and from there on he knew this genre was something he wanted to pursue.
Jason started by paying attention to the music around him and began building a healthy record collection. Over time his understanding for the music improved, which eventually led to him getting involved with DJ’ing. By the age of nine he could be found behind the decks at house parties and school functions. However, it wasn’t long before word spread and one of his demo mixes ended up in the hands of a local promoter who loved what he heard and booked him straight away for an upcoming event - Jason made his club debut when he was thirteen. That same year, Jason found himself making his radio debut when he appeared on a local radio station Dance Music show with a thirty-minute guest mix. Word soon spread of the new kid on the block and it wasn’t long until he was holding down residencies all around Cape Town.
Music Production began for Jason with basic music software sequencers. But before long he was producing quality material and started crafting his own sound with newer and better software. He submitted his first Demo to Gallo Records / RPM Dance at eleven years old. A few weeks later he received a reply from the label manger who was very impressed with what he heard and offered words of encouragement as it was evident the young man was on the right path.
At the age of fourteen, Directions was released through Gallo Records under the Sound Craft alias. The single was a success and was featured on numerous CD compilations. It also gained great support from both South African and international DJ’s in clubs as well as on radio. However, more was yet to come, a year later and Jason found himself remixing tracks for other producers including Germany’s Rene Ablaze. Jason’s remix of Ablaze’s Autumn Again was released by Ablaze’s own label – Redux Recordings, it featured in the German DJ chart for several weeks and appeared on several compilation CD's.
Jason's first single under his own name, Imagine (Released July 2008), was signed to the German label Redux Recordings. His second single, Oceanblue (Released February 2009), was then signed to the UK label Alter Ego Records and was picked up by Aly & Fila, George Acosta and Abbot & Chambers for various compilation CD’s.
Consistently showing an intense level of detail, emotion, depth and musical ability in every track he does, producing a unique sound that will rock any dance floor as well as providing an awesome listening experience, Jason’s tracks have captured the interest of listeners around the world and some of the biggest names in the dance music scene.
With support from leading DJ’s such as Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Andy Moor, Roger Shah, Solarstone and many more, 2009 sees him firmly making his mark on the international circuit.
