Saxophonist and composer Jean-Christophe Béney was born in France in October of 1969. He studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris from 1993 to 1996 with François Jeanneau.
Since his debut as a professional musician in 1994, his career has been divided between experience as a sideman, and experience (on a more personal level) as composer and band leader. As a sideman he has played in the bands of Laurent Coq, François Théberge, Stéphane et Lionel Belmondo, the big band of Antoine Hervé, and more recently in the sextet of Yves Léveillé, Effendi Jazzzlab, Auguste quintet, TRONIX,…
Sharing his time between Paris and Montreal for a few years, he has released his three most recent albums on the Canadian jazz label Effendi Records, in 2002, 2004 and in October 2007, featuring his most recent disc, Pop Up.
