Jeff Marrs has become one of the top call drummers in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since moving back in 2001, Marrs works regularly with the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra (MSJO), The Eaton-Barics Quintet, The Mel Martin Quartet, The Mitch Marcus Quintet, The "Dynamic" Ms. Faye Carol, Sista Kee and IOP, Natasha Miller, and The Collective West Jazz Orchestra. He has also worked with, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Don Friedman, Donnie McCaslin, Dayna Stephens, Ambrose Akinmuseri, Josh Nelson, Rodger Kellaway, and Jakie Ryan. Others that Jeff Has played with are, Steffon Harris, Marc Cary, Ledisi, Kim Nally, Jason Palmer, Bob Reynolds, Mark Small, Bob Brookmeyer, George Russell, John McNeil, Geroge Garzone and Danilo Perez.
In 2001 Marrs recorded a film soundtrack for a PBS documentry on Ralph Ellison. In 2002 He played for the Oakland Ballet. Marrs has also played at the Fillmore Jazz festival, the San Jose Jazz Festival, the San Francisco Jazz Festival, the Montclaire Jazz Festival, the Sonoma Jazz Festival, the Belvedere Jazz Festival and the Concord Jazz Festival. Marrs performed with Marcus Shelby at the Montreal Jazz Festival in July (08). He has also recorded with The Mel Martin Quartet Featuring Don Friedman.
Jeff Marrs received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees, in jazz performance, from The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA. There he had the opportunity to study with John McNeil, Danilo Perez, Bob Brookmeyer, George Russell, Fred Buda, Gary Chaffee and Goerge Garzone. Besides being a free lance musician in the Bay Area, Jeff is now teaching privately. Jeff is also part time faculty at Los Medanos College, Diablo Valley Colloege and The Jazzschool, and UC Berkeley.
