| Influences | I've been influenced by many artists and people in my life. As for music, my mama raised me right with good music. She took me to a Black Sabbath concert while I was still in the womb. I was raised on Queen, Billy Squier, Pat Benetar, Free, Bad Company, Toto, Journey, David Bowie and Def Leppard...which explains my love for the glam side of rock and roll.
As I grew up my passion swung to the very acoustic side of music, spending allowance money on any cd that had a chick and a guitar on the cover. I loved the raw emotion brough on by singers like Kina Cosper, Tracy Chapman, Melissa Etheridge, Carly Simon, Alanis Morissette, Ani DiFranco, Plumb, Paula Cole, Sheryl Crow, Poe, Tori Amos and Melissa Ferrick. And honestly, they are the artists that have influenced my songwriting style the most.
However, I must say that newer idie artists have had an impact on me in that they teach me to expand myself and not conform to any particular sound...to do what I feel without thinking about it...so, thank you to Imogen Heap, Rilo Kiley, Regina Spektor, Mates of State, Postal Service, Sneaker Pimps, Tegan and Sara and countless others that I listen to on a daily basis. |
