jazz power-ballads. Plainville is folky, rockish, and free.
"small man - big sound" (THE MONITOR, KAMPALA UGANDA) saxophonist and composer Jeremy Udden (pronounced You-Deen) can be heard on various records on the Fresh Sound New Talent, Buda Musique, Innova, Accurate, CIMP, Rackem Records, and Creative Nation labels. His debut record as a leader "torchsongs" was released on Fresh Sound in 2006 and hailed "a small wonder, full of color and daring" by Jim Macnie (VILLAGE VOICE). the torch songs are by Jeremy (with a Steve Lacy and Bangles cover to round things out) and feature Ben Monder, Matt Wilson, John Lockwood, Bob Brookmeyer, Nathan Blehar, Leo Genovese, Ziv Ravitz, Tim Miller, and Garth Stevenson playing tunes "spanning the soothingly melodic to the jaggedly free" (MODERN DRUMMER).---------------
his PLAINVILLE is more folk and countryish, with Pete Rende on pump organ and Brandon Seabrook on banjo. to be released as Jeremy's second Fresh Sound record in the coming fall, Udden has performed this music around New York, Boston, and at Stockholm's Club Faching and Glenn Miller Cafe.
Udden can be heard at varying levels of regularity with the Either/Orchestra (tours to Ethiopia, Uganda, Italy, France, Russia, and around the US), i am the color of dead leaves, Andreea Pauta, Holis Bolis, Catshow Snapshots, Monica Heidman, the Jazz Composers Alliance, Dominique Eade, John Mcneil, Peter Eldridge, and Irene Aebi Trio. recent highlights include a tribute concert to Steve Lacy in Merkin Hall, sharing the stage (and solos) with Joe Lovano, Dave Leibman, and Irene Aebi, as well as a guest appearance with Gunther Schuller and the ProArte Chamber Orchestra at Harvard's Sanders Theater, and winning the Fish-Middleton Jazz Competition.
