Jerl Welch started playing harmonica in the late 60's and has had many influences through this span. From Rock, Country, Gospel, Jazz, Jerl has been able to express himself with his music through his harmonica playing.
Jerl's first professional flight took off in the early 70's working with a Waylon Jennings cover band in Las Vegas , transfering back to Texas and doing shows with all the Texas Outlaw groups like Willie Nelson, Hank Jr., David Allen Coe. His harmonica influences were Donnie Brooks, Mickey Raphel, Fingers Taylor, Charlie McCoy, Paul Butterfield and the likes.
Jerl is the founder and still president of the Harmonica Organization of Texas, better known as Hoot. Check out the website at www.hoottexas.com and check for a chapter in your area.
Jerl also plays bass harmonica in a harmonica trio group named" Dallas Harmonica Trio" consisting of : Frank Halovanic as Lead Chromatic player, John Halovanic on the Chord harmonica, and Jerl on bass harmonica. The trio has two CD's out " Memory Lane" and " Harps On Fire".
Jerl has two personal cd's out: " Harpin At The Opry" and " It's A Hoot".
