...probably something you could hum along to....
Movies
Mostly foreign and not the latest buzzed films of the day. American flicks, mostly soulless vehicles, have become waaaay too dependent on technology, fart jokes and rehashing PC formulas/themes of the day....
...here's some pics worth searching for:
The Cuckoo (Russian, Finnish, German, Lapp -- north of the Arctic Circle, a tragi-comedy-drama of miscommunication on the outer edges of WWII.)...
No Man's Land (multiple languages, least violent most compelling anti-war movie in years)...
Everybody's Fine (Italy. Wonderful turn for an aging Marcello Mastroianni)...
Cinema Paradiso (Italy. Great film for movie lovers)....
Russian Ark (Russia. Only movie ever filmed in a one take with one camera and a cast of 4500 people, 4 live orchestras, the Hermitage Museum and 300 years of Russian history). Remarkable....
Europa, Europa...(Multiple countries)
A time for Drunken Horses (Iranian)...
Run, Lola, Run (German)...
Kadush (Israeli)...
Amelie (French)...
Dirty Pretty Things (Brit)...
Elling (Danish)...
Burnt by the Sun (Russian)...
Television
Music is like Merlot (or name yer poison) -- moving, interactive, engaging. TV is heroin, slamming U onto a couch... ..if very seductive...
Books
Very cool things. Don't know what who or where I would've been without 'em. But now seem so 20th Century to my distracted info-overloaded soul. You may boo and hiss now.Still, I respect and reccommend them......along with the amazing graphic novels and comics I do read.... ..Alan Moore, Garth Ennis, Neil Gaiman
Heroes
A lot of you, well all two of you who've ever read this far, would be pissed if I said.....

About me:
"A poet more than thirty years old is simply an overgrown child."
- H.L. Mencken
Oh yeah? Wanna make somethin' out of that, H.L.? Meet me behind the Coffeehouse, midnight, Saturday after the slam. I'll be there with my boys and girls.
And now... ...Here's so much more about mememememe...
Jim Keller here -- a performance poet, a photog, unheralded prophet, a player, a pawn in the game -- and 'atchyer service but for not for yer servicing. a/k/a Word Wrangler, Ice Cowboy (a story for another day), the Dirt Baron (ditto), Maynard G, Rip Van Jim and widely known to be diagnosed with multiple personality disorder.
A poet anyway..... ...a slammer at that...
...a damn fine idiosyncratic fellow who cleans up fairly well on a good day. Identified as karmically ancient by some who should know, and while inhabiting a crinkling carapace, formed and yet forming from clay that refuses to set.
Member, Salt City Slam Team 2006 and volunteer staffer at the '07 Poetry Slam Nationals).
There's more poems by we and many national slammers in my top friends below).
...And speaking of slam, Austin's hosting of the 2007 Poetry Slam Nationals.... ...well, they were fantastic, inspiring, cheesy, funny, moving, enormous, exhausting, entertaining, irritating, palpitating, everything else you can expect from slam...
Just wish y'awl coulda' been there....
Check out the website for more information: Poetry Slam Nationals.
And see video slamcasts at Pod Slam.org (yes, Virginia, there are friends in this world NOT on MySpace. Like Omigod, fer shure, get a handle, homies!!)
Who I'd like to meet: Isis, Kali (well actually we dated and it wasn't pretty, but she was hot), Athena (OK so I have a hot goddess fetish, I'll get help soon -- promise), Anne Sexton, Teddy Roosevelt, the Dali Lama, Siddharta, the Reverend Dodgson and Alice Liddell, Mansa Musa, Mary Magdelene, Aristotle, Kafka, Gunter Gras, Kurt Vonnegut, Carl Jung, Alfred the Great, Trotsky, Ayn Rand, Philo T. Farnsworth, David Byrne, Steve Jobs, Frida Kahlo, Confucius, K Fed and Nietzsche (don't know some of these? Look 'em up and learn, oh ye unwashed), and, yeah, a spoken word agent with killer contax.
Sup Ice ~ So where's the crew movin' to ? Hector Ahumada is here right now, and he mentioned this place called the Atlantic, w excellent food and wine and a room in the back for gatherings. May not be the best atmosphere, so its just a suggestion.
Let me know what's going on w/Sat night open mics, shaun
Hey just wanted you to know that I did stop by Saturday afternoon to lend my support and (more importantly) my hard earned cash. It's a nice place. They should serve beer and wine, though. I prefer my poetry through a haze of Shiraz. Peace. Keep in touch.
I can only assume that is my girl Jess, she talked about you slamming at the arts fest last year, and was very impressed and had a strong desire to participate. I am so impressed and ecstatic for her.
Hopefully the weekend goes well enough that COJ will be a long-standing place in SLC.
I won't be in SLC again until Monday, but I am bummed I won't make it to the COJ fundraiser. Hoping it all goes well, and sending the best vibes I can.
Hmmmm. . . interestink. Do you mean, in danger of being "kicked out" of Cup'o'Joes...? Or They be shuttin the joint DOWN? Let's give each other a ringding on our cellies, say anytime after 5pm - when I'm out of work. I want the dirty lowdown on this...
