I used to mean something to a lot of people. All those gold records in the 80's didn't seem to add up to much, when I sued my management, label and publisher simultaneously. I lost everything. Legally, I can no longer write music, perform music professionally, or release albums.
I spent most of the 90's coked, pilled and drunk on whatever couch I could secure for the night. On good nights, that couch would belong to a woman who could remember who I was.
Couple years back, a friend of mine forced me into his home studio to record a few cover songs. Naturally, I picked a few songs that spoke to the horrors of the music industry, and this snowballed and became "Jimmy Winchell Gives You The Business" on Priapus records.
While I'm still usually coked, pilled, drunk and couch-ridden, I have made it a point to continue to work my musical muscles in the only way that the lawyers can't deny me. Cover songs that are given away free.
I hope you enjoy these samples here.. There's a buttload more at screwmusicforever.com. I take requests.
so me and me mates are in the loo getting all grinding teefs and gnarled lipsores, when someone's cellular toy goes off and the ring tone was you. i stopped snorting and said "hey that guy owes me money", finished the rail and tossed the phone in the shitter and i'll do the same to you if you ever come back this way again ... you've been warned jimmy, either record that cover to cover them expenses you piled up while you was in Lancastershickershire or next time we play the big apple, we will dispatch Claude to get our monies proper!
I know you were thinking of me Jimmy, I got an itch on my bum at one point and it flashed me back to 1996. That was a crazy year for us. You were definitely missed!
Super lovies the new one Jimmy. I remember that song from when i was just a youngin' - by the way, I was born in a Year of the Cat...
"The Year of the Cat is also called the Year of the Rabbit... It comes every 12 Years and it is supposed to be a stress free year. The Last Year of the Cat was 1999. It was also the Year of the Cat in 1975, the year before this came out. But, there is no guarantee that the Year of the Cat that Stewart sang about was 1975, since it could have been 1963, 1951,1939, 1927 and so forth. We'll look forward to the next one in 2011. The lyrics were inspired by the 1942 Humphrey Bogart movie Casablanca."
Jimmy got your message. Hell ya we'll be your backing band. We're kinda like whores of the music world. Dangle a little blow in front of us and we'll do anything. We're learning your songs now but I'm thinking that maybe we'll just smoke some dimethyltryptamine and see what color music notes the praying mantis people shoot at us while we're up on stage.
Great show Friday night Jimmers. Nice to see you, even if briefly. To my relief, you're looking good these days. Sorry i stormed out to refill my glass of wine during one of them Cali songs, i just worry you won't ever return...
