I'm a vegetarian, don't smoke, don't drink or do drugs and I love my kids, girlfriend and Mango Fruitista's from Taco Bell pretty much in that order. I've played tennis for as long as I can remember, and was ranked 2 in PA (12 years old and under) when I was about 10 years old. I played on my high school tennis team and was ranked 1 on the team my junior and senior years. I was going to play tennis professionally until I started a band and decided to be a rockstar. Yea I know, what was I thinking...
I own a guitar shop called RHOADS MUSIC where I buy, sell and trade new, used and vintage guitars, basses, amps, drums, etc. I also give guitar, bass and drum lessons and also do guitar, bass and drum repairs. I also do sound for events such as the Elizabethtown Arts in the Park as well as for bands, acoustic acts and other functions. Website : www.rhoadsmusic.com Phone : 717-361-9272
Turn ons include watching public TV on saturday nights with aforementioned mango fruitista and girlfriend, vintage guitars, Ludwig drums, vintage Lambretta motorscooters, vintage REAL Mini Cooper cars and long walks at the flea market.
Turn offs, smoking, drugs, drinking, meat, little dogs, back pain, the fact that I rarely find dress hats to fit my huge head, bad pizza and those new FAKE Mini Coopers.

I'm currently playing drums 2 to 4 times a month with Sonic, a cover band from Reading PA. I'm also available for live fill-in work as well as studio work with any style band. I will play any kind of music at any kind of bar, club, restaurant, carnival, reseption, private party, clam bake, or popcicle stand as long as I'm being paid. No time to rehearse? No problem, my specialty is coming in at the last minute when your regular drummer is sick, lost, drunk or he quits the day of a show. And I won't just come in and wing it, I'll nail it. I've done it a million times and I can do it for you. I use my own in-ear monitors on stage and also have extensive experience playing with a click track live and in the studio. I've done fill-in and studio work with bands that played rock, country, top 40, dance, funk, metal, punk, etc... Examples of my studio work are available on CD and my live work on DVD by request. Rates also available upon request. Also visit my You Tube page for videos. You Tube Here's a sample...
I have a USA made 1978 Ludwig Vistalite "Smoke" drum set that I use from time to time. 22x14 kick, 16 floor, 13 tom and 10 tom. Vistalites are made of acrylic (plastic) and are transparent so I also have internal lights on each drum that flash when I hit them. It actually looks pretty cool onstage, and you can keep track of which drum I'm hitting too! I use an original 1971 Ludwig 14 X 5 Supraphonic metal snare drum. The Supraphonic is the most recorded snare drum in history and can be heard on most rock and jazz recording in the 60's and 70's by artists such as Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Yes, The Who, James Brown, The Doors, Dave Brubeck and many, many more. I also have a bunch of other vintage snares (Ludwig and Slingerland) that I usually only use for recording.
My bass drum has an internal Shure 52 mic and I have a set of Sennheiser E604's for all my toms and snares. I also use a Pearl Eliminator double or single bass pedal again depending on the situation.
Lately Ive been using a USA made 1971 Ludwig kit in Sky Blue Pearl sizes 22, 12, 13, 16. I've owned this drumset since I was in high school and have used it on recording sessions with The Reach Around Rodeo Clowns among others, and on many live shows over the years including Robert Gordon, Charlie Gracie, Screamin Daisys, The Reach Around Rodeo Clowns, etc... I also have a matching second bass drum which I've used in certain situations such as a Jimi Hendrix tribute band (Purple Haze) among others. Please visit my photo section to see live pictures of this set in single and double bass configuration.
I have a 13 piece Simmons electonic kit with an Alesis D5 brain as well as various Simmons brains that can be used for different situations. I also have a Roland SPD8 pad set for additional percussion and sound effects. I have also triggered my electronics with my acoustic drums in certain live and studio situations.
I've played on stage and/or recorded with bands/artists such as Robert Gordon, Charlie Gracie, Screamin Daisys, Groove Jones, The LA Rockers, Spike Irish (Los Angeles), Daddy C and the All Stars, The Dixie Pistols (Eclipse Records), Jet Silver, Bon Fuhrer, The Reach Around Rodeo Clowns (Llist Records), White Lies, The Eyes, Doc Rock and the Nuclear Dogs, Rudi Kazouti, Purple Haze (Jimi Hendrix Tribute), Bob Noble and Blue Voodoo, Quentin and the Barnstormers, Tickled Pink, Full House, plus many more I simply can't remember. When I lived in Los Angeles I had a chance to audition for the band "Air Supply" but at the time I thought I had too much integrity to play music like that. Instead I fueled planes at the Van Nuys airport and played with a couple bands that did absolutely nothing. Again, a genius decision!
Bands I've played with have opened for artists such as Jewel, The Goo Goo Dolls, Lee Rocker (bassist with The Stray Cats), Jim Lauderdale, The Toasters, Al Stewart, World Inferno Friendship Society, among many others that are even cheesier.
I must say I'm very happy you decided not to be a tennis pro or join Air Supply, because we never would have had the chance to rock with you! Looking forward to continuing LJ Rockin' Acoustic with you, and Sonic will keep on rockin' thanks to you! The show must go on! Thanks, Jim! Liz
