Sounds Like
...nothing you've ever heard before, but has been compared to Jonathan Richman, Lou Reed, The Ramones, They Might Be Giants, Billy Bragg, Loudon Wainwright III, and Kermit The Frog.
For over 20 years, Jim Testa listened to other people's music and told you what he thought.
Now it's your turn.
The editor/publisher of JERSEY BEAT, one of the oldest and most well-respected music fanzines in America, has dusted off his guitar and returned to the stage with a second collection of his quirky, catchy, irreverent, witty, and sometimes sentimental pop tunes. "There Goes The Neighborhood" includes runaway hits like "Sally's Got A New Tattoo," about a grrl who gets a little too carried away at the tattoo & piercings parlor, and "Punk Rock Is Not Day Care," a savage indictment of the callow 'tweens turning Jim's precious punk scene into an episode of Lizzie McGuire.
Jim appears as a solo singer/songwriter, with his friend John Raido on harmonica, and with the band Eisenhower at area venues throughout NYC and NJ. But you can almost catch him on the 4th Saturday of any month at the Charleston Bar & Grill in Williamsburg.
The Village Voice says "quirky and catchy and a lot of fun." The Rev. Keith Gordon wrote that Jim's two EP's are "consistently charming, witty and fun to listen to." Greg Matherly of ARC magazine called it "straight up acoustic punk." But when Jim shows up with his guitar to play for you, you'll say, "There goes the neighborhood!"
The final show of a fantastic monthly acoustic showcase It was part celebration, part wake. As we cheered in the holiday season, we also bid a fond farewell to this monthly acoustic showcase called Folk You.
Folk You Photo Gallery Jim Testa, The Milwaukees, Marc Maurizi and Tom Gerkes. It seemed like a good a night as any to keep the flash off and go for the warmth of the Christmas tree lights.
