Bio
Joshua Lowe has one foot in the American roots past with songs about down and out drunkards, sick of love ramblers, and snow bound ghosts. With a sense for both storytelling and poetics Joshua Lowe has been dubbed "his generations Woody Gutherie, a great teller of tales," by the infamous acoustic engineer, Cookie Marenco, co-founder of Blue Coast Records and owner of OTR studios in Belmont, CA. Joshua Lowe with his band The Juncos (Jeff Kissell - double bass/harmony vocals and Chris Lynch - violin/mandolin/piano/harmony vocals) finished recording and mixing their first album at OTR studios in the winter of 2010. Under the guidance and wisdom of Cookie and her "next level" staff, The Juncos stayed as true to the old-timey style of recording as possible. Cookie had this to say about the process: "It was played live in the studio without headphones and recorded to 2" tape, mixed to DSD. We overdubbed a few mandolin parts, but the basics were played in one room. No compression was used... AT ALL! In fact, the first mix had compression and I remixed the recording and took it off. These are real dynamics." Check out what she is talking about. Visit http://joshualowe.downloadsnow.net/ and Buy the soon to be released album NOW! .. -

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
