Influences
J.S. Bach, Gesualdo, Charles Ives, Alban Berg, Bela Bartok, Toru Takemitsu, Henri Dutilleux, Arvo Pärt, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Ornette Coleman, Keith Jarrett, Jan Johansson, Börje Fredriksson, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Burt Bacharach, Paddy McAloon, Björk... but mainly all the fantastic musicians I've had the pleasure of sharing the stage with.
I've never finished any bands, but sometimes they take very long intermissions...
Joakim Milderz was formed 1988 and plays what I once described as "unsteady dance-music for those who haven't made up their minds". It's some kind of chamber music with improvisation, mainly dealing with sounds and instrumentation, and maybe less focused on rhythm. The group consists of some of my true musical heroes: Steve Dobrogosz -Piano. Henrik Frendin -Viola, Max Schultz -Acoustic Guitar, Christian Spering -Bass and Petur Östlund -Percussion. This band have in slightly different incarnations made 5 records for Dragon Records; "Life in life" 1988 (-only on LP...), "Still in Motion" 1990, "Ways" 1993, "Remains" 1995 and "New Spring" 1999. We might make a new record... some time.
I really can't explain why, but I've been a deeply dedicated collector of old cameras for many years. In 2003 I decided it was time to get serious, and liquidated most of my collection in order to start a record company; -Apart Records, and have so far released 10 records with music I think deserves a share of the music space (a CD with the amazing group "paavo" has just been released). The first release was also the premier of a new group; Joakim Milder Quintet. I wrote the suite "Monolithic" in a few, very intense weeks for the extraordinary musicians: Staffan Svensson -trumpet, Peter Dahlgren -Trombone, Christian Spering -Bass and Peter Danemo -Drums. This music is perhaps more obviously connected to some kind of jazz tradition. Most of the improvising is based on thematic material rather than chords. You can almost tap your feet to some of the tunes... I'm not very interested in the obvious, -there's so much left to explore.
Though I've never consciously tried to please anyone, I really hope you'll enjoy the music!
