About me:
TWELVE QUESTIONS
(If you're looking to learn about me -- start reading.)
Question 1.
1. Who is JoeNice ?
Question 2.
2. What is dubstep?
Deep in the heart of South London's underground lies a sound that percolates in the streets and vibrates the speakers...dubstep is the soundtrack. A vibe that rests on the edge of relaxation and explosion, that flourishes in the middle ground of the comfortable sounds of soulful house and the unbridled energy of drum & bass.....
Music made in London -- forged from multicultural influences, syncopated rhythms and loads of bass.
Dubstep.
Not too fast....Not too slow....Just right.
Dubstep = Bass + pace + space.
Dubstep = Beats + bass + boom.
Dubstep = A force of nature.
Dubstep = Infection + reflection.
Dubstep = release + restraint.
Dubstep = The irresistible force meeting the immovable object.
Dubstep = The art of the invisible.
Dubstep = Mood music that's strictly for the headstrong.
Dubstep = What is now and what is next.
Dubstep = Musical soul food.
Question 3.
3. How can i listen to what you play ?
JOENICE ON THE RADIO
GourmetBeats Radio.
FIRST TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH; 7p - 8p. EST.
After every show, I will post a blog with a link for download and tracklisting. This will be done promptly after every show.
Questions 4 and 5.
4. What is this "windmill" thing all about?
5. What is this "5" thing all about?
In January 2006, Kuma was kind enough to do an interview with me for Art of Beatz radio. During the interview, the "windmill" and "5" questions were asked. Read this interview and you too will have the knowledge about the "windmill" and "5". Neither the "windmill" nor the "5" are copy written, but it could happen.
Question 6.
6. BOOKINGS ?
All my bookings go through Circle Management.
AGENT: Steve Gordon
steve@circle-management.com.
Question 7.
7. What is the "410 Formula"? What is "I AM NOT OK?"
It's magic...the "410 FORMULA" is about being the best. It's not something you take off @ night and put on in the morning; it's a way of life. The 410 FORMULA is about establishing a positive legacy, cultivating a culture and making the substantial and significant difference that's sorely needed in the underground music scene -- in Baltimore and beyond. Big tune after big tune. Big show after big show.
"I AM NOT OK" started a couple of Dubwar's ago...Juakali was on the mic and he just kept saying, "I AM NOT OK"...he seemed perfectly ok to me. After the long bus ride home -- it was really a sign of things to come. It's now my "mission statement for 2008". Here's what it means:
"I AM NOT OK" is a call to action. It's about not being content with anything that you are doing or anything that you have done. Each of us can do more -- for ourselves and each other. There's no time to "take it easy". It's not about being greedy, but it is about wanting more for yourself (there is a difference). It's about pushing the limits (numbers and people) -- as far as they can go. I AM NOT OK.
Question 8.
8. Where do you cut your dubs?
If you're wondering where i cut my dubs....i cut @ Turnstyle Records. Ask for Oscar or Sue. They will sort you out. Tell them I sent you.
MYSPACE = http://www.myspace.com/turnstylerecords.
ADD THEM !!!
Question 9.
9. How can i contact you?
My email address is joenice@gourmetbeats.com.
NEW AIM SCREEN NAME = joenicedj.
You're more than welcome to add me. We'll chat.
Question 10.
10. Who are you? Or -- who am I?
I am:
- thankful for the things that I have, material and non-material.
- enjoying life.
- in search of the truth.
- in search of constant improvement; personal, professional and spiritual.
- in search of why. Not what....WHY.
- a representative of all those that have helped me along the way. For that, I give thanks.
- eventually going to make my own music. it's gonna take time.
- an even bigger fan of two local (Baltimore) dj's, DanGee and JohnAsk. They're the dj's i wish i could be.
- going to continue my education. I need to. I need to learn more.
- proud that Barack Obama is the next President of the United States. Anything is possible.
- planning to become more involved in my community. In any way possible. I find that I'm doing things now, but i need to do more for other people.
Question 11.
11. I wish.............
I wish/I am wishing for:
- that Brian Billick wasn't fired as the coach of the Ravens. He brought a football championship to Baltimore -- and in the process, made Baltimore a relevant sports city once again.
- the Orioles would win more baseball games.
- an end to homelessness, hunger and world poverty.
- the troops would come home -- safely and immediately. No more war.
- I didn't sell some of my Baltimore club collection a few years ago.
- that Johnny Gill and Stacy Lattisaw did more duets together. Sure -- they did an album together....but i want more. They really were the "Perfect Combination". Speaking of music......
- Cherelle and Alexander O'Neal did an album. Saturday Love....Everything I miss At Home...Never Knew Love Like This....classic slow jam business, but i feel they had more to give. I know I was more than willing to listen.
- i had attended a different college.
- Bo Jackson didn't get injured during the playoffs against the Bengals. Hard to believe that was nearly 20 years ago. That brother could do anything. I'm still convinced that his birth certificate says Krypton and underneath his jersey is a shirt with an "S" on the front. He's the only athlete to have played the NFL's Pro Bowl and MLB's All-Star game. He could run a 4.2 40-yard dash and hit a baseball 500 feet. Bo was Bo. It's a shame that most of us will remember him with the question "what if"? i'm gonna remember what was.
- a cure for AIDS and cancer.
- an end to the violence on the streets of Baltimore -- and -- in all major cities, but Baltimore especially. I LIVE HERE.
I'll add more to this list -- eventually.
Question 12.
12. What / who do you love?
I love:
- my Mother.
- My fiance. Her name is Tammie.
- my music.
-
City Cafe.
- Ben Sherman clothing.
- honesty.
- Tony Kornheiser & Michael Wilbon. Their show on ESPN, "Pardon The Interruption" is brilliant.
- Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. Since The Wire is no longer on TV, SVU is the best show on TV. I love the relationship Benson and Stabler enjoy. They care about each other without being romantic. Kudos to the writers for not going down this path. Benson and Stabler are individually great, but collectively -- unbeatable.
- Calzone's restaurant in San Francisco. Everything, and i do mean EVERYTHING is good on the menu. TRUST ME.
- Adidas. Especially the old school/vintage stuff. You can't lose! I mean, who doesn't like an Adidas track jacket?
- Dionysus in Baltimore. The food is top notch and I can walk there from my place. If you're ever in the mood for a drink -- message me. I'll meet you there. Baby Blue Salad for the win !
- San Francisco. Yes -- the entire city.
- Roots clothing. Proper Canadian clothing....that looks cool.
- New Edition. Yes -- New Edition. They're one of the few groups that changed lead singers and not missed a beat. (You can't say the same for Van Halen....and to a certain extent -- The Temptations.) They all enjoyed success away from the group. Ralph, Bobby and Johnny all were successful solo artists -- Ronnie, Ricky and Mike....they were BBD. I can't even say they were a "boy band" -- they were a group. What's better than Mr. Telephone Man? I rest my case.
- Whole Foods.
- Robin Meade. She's the "other lady" I wake up to her every morning. Yes, she's brilliant. Yes, I have a crush on her...and I know i'm not the only one that feels this way.
- Nigella Lawson. If Robin Meade is the "other lovely lady i wake up to in the morning", Nigella is the lovely lady that i want to have dinner with. Needless to say, she'll be doing the cooking.
- Ric Flair. He coined the phrase, "To be the man, you've gotta beat the man." So true. I'm sad that he's gone from wrestling, I enjoyed the Ric Flair era. Charisma personified. Stylin' and profilin'! The kiss-stealin, wheelin'-dealin', limousine ridin', jet-flyin' son-of-a-gun. The Nature Boy. There will never be another. His promos were legendary. YouTube them if you don't believe me. He was "bling" before anyone else knew what it was. He made it rain. He lived in a big house on the big side of town. He was custom-made from head to toe...and he did all of this with a power mullet. WOOOOOO !
You don't lose faith in winners -- I'm playing to win; each and every day of my life.
