Influences
In my earlier years as a guitarist I was fascinated by the Spanish guitar masters such as Tarrega and Sor, as well as the great classical composer of German tradition, like Mozart, Bach, Schubert, Beethoven, and Haydn. In my teens I also dabbled in jazz and rock styles, enjoying particularly Randy Rhoads and Yngwie Malmsteen who infused their styles with classical influence. From my father I gained a love of all things Spanish, Latin American, and Caribbean - especially the ocean and sun! My father lived in the Bahamas for a while, and I used to love hearing the stories about all the strange characters he encountered there. My mother (who plays a little guitar) also influenced me, not only musically, but in Latin dance, as she taught Latin dance for a time in her earlier years. So, naturally, I took slasa and merengue classes.
Then there is my spiritual side which I generally don't speak too much about. But I have trained in various Chinese practices such as Hung Gar style Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Qi Gong. I have also been heavily involved with the spiritual practices of India, including Kundalini Yoga. I have trained and am certified in Sensory Healing under the tutalage of Hari Nam Singh Khalsa, as well as Reiki.
Books have also played a special roll in my evolution as a human being. Most of the books I read are about spirituality and I am facinated by the words of Yogananda, Lau Tzu, Mantak Chia, and especially Osho.
