A behind the scenes DVD of the making of Floating Point will also be released. Filmed over a period of five days, it gives an intimate look at the spontaneity and vitality with which the CD was recorded. Further insight is offered through musician interviews and an extra audio track of McLaughlin providing commentary. John McLaughlin has just finished recording the upcoming dvd on Konokol, the Indian Rhythm System with percussionist V. Selvaganesh. This DVD is scheduled to launch in September 2007 in USA on Abstractlogix and Mediastarz in Europe.
Konokol – the universal system of mastering rhythm without drums is presented by John McLaughlin with Konokol Master Selvaganesh Vinayakram.
The DVD is divided into 6 chapters which bring the student from basic rhythm into the fascinating rhythms of of 5/4 7/4 9/8 etc.
Exercises are explained by John and demonstrated by Selva, followed by improvisations, which include all the exercise material of that particular chapter. You’ll learn through this course how to improvise rhythmically, and how this system can also help in your compositions.
In each chapter, John McLaughlin demonstrates on the guitar, the benefit Konokol has had on his life of music.
At the lower edge of your screen you will see a western musical score moving in sync to all the exercises, demonstrations and improvisations.
