Our new website has been up for about a year now, and I had written a piece called ‘A New Karuna’, part of which is the background music to the site.
Many people have written to us enquiring about this music and if they could obtain it somewhere. Since it was never recorded, it was unavailable.
This Christmas my wife Ina and I have decided to make a special offer to those who are interested in having the entire piece.
There will be no charge for downloading ‘A New Karuna’ to anyone, but there will be the possibility to make a donation to an organization who are doing wonderful work for abandoned children in India called Indian Smiles. http://indiansmiles.unblog.fr
We have been associated with this group for some years now and we can whole-heartedly recommend them, and furthermore, we guarantee that all the funds collected from the ‘A New Karuna’ download will be given over to the organization. In addition the people in Indian Smiles devote their time and work voluntarily. This means that all the money collected will go towards helping the children who are the only beneficiaries here.
Any donation will be acceptable, but even if you don’t have any money you can still download the piece and always make a donation at some later date if you wish. There’s no obligation.
We would also extend our gratitude to our associate Abstract Logix and their partner Beet, Inc for offering this download service free of charge.
In ending, we would like to thank all our friends known and unknown, who support our work, and send them our joyful wishes for the season and the New Year.
John McLaughlin has already said Floating Point , his brand new CD, “May be the best record I ever made.” That’s really saying something when you consider McLaughlin’s prolific and trailblazing career. The guitarist and composer has appeared on some of the most important jazz-rock and world music albums in the last 40 years. The cd and DVD will be released by Mediastarz in EU and Abstract Logix in Americas.
A behind the scenes DVD of the making of Floating Point will also be released. Filmed over a period of five days, it gives an intimate look at the spontaneity and vitality with which the CD was recorded. Further insight is offered through musician interviews and an extra audio track of McLaughlin providing commentary. It is the perfect companion piece for those who enjoy the CD and or would like to get a closer look at how minds meet during a modern recording session. Abstractlogix and Mediastarz in Europe.
John McLaughlin has just finished recording the upcoming dvd on Konokol, the Indian Rhythm System with percussionist V. Selvaganesh. This DVD is scheduled to launch in September 2007 in USA on Abstractlogix and Mediastarz in Europe.
Konokol – the universal system of mastering rhythm without drums is presented by John McLaughlin with Konokol Master Selvaganesh Vinayakram.
The DVD is divided into 6 chapters which bring the student from basic rhythm into the fascinating rhythms of of 5/4 7/4 9/8 etc.
Exercises are explained by John and demonstrated by Selva, followed by improvisations, which include all the exercise material of that particular chapter. You’ll learn through this course how to improvise rhythmically, and how this system can also help in your compositions.
In each chapter, John McLaughlin demonstrates on the guitar, the benefit Konokol has had on his life of music.
At the lower edge of your screen you will see a western musical score moving in sync to all the exercises, demonstrations and improvisations.
"I’m a guitar player—that's what I am primarily, that’s what I' ll always be," McLaughlin has been quoted as saying. " (And) I'm an eternal learner. I don't want to stop learning because I feel that no matter what I
've done, I'm really just beginning again. I don' t think I' ll ever stop learning."

About this page: I have been very active in Domestic Violence causes all of my adult life. I noticed a need in the world pertaining to Same Sex Domestic Violence. It happens more than people know. Unfortunately there is a number of gay people who barely consider themselves worthy or valued as a gay person much less a Domestic Violence Victim. There is also very limited resources, statistics, or information, for Same Sex Domestic Violence. Hopefully through empowerment and education we can change some of this. :D
