   About John Shirley
New to this page:

New electronica/blues/hip hop crossover: "Why is Your heart so Black?" = vocals/lyrics by John Shirley, music/production by Juji, engineering and additional production by Jay Russio, guitar by Gabriel Lambrith, Keyboard by John Giuntoli.

"Yeah You", " and "Johnny Paranoid" are from the late 70s Pacific NW Punk rock band SADONATION, vocals by John Shirley, music by David Corboy (lyrics on Yeah You by Corboy).

"200,000 Homeless Children" by the band Obsession, vocals/lyrics by John Shirley, music by John Karr - it seems relevant to today's reality.

"I am Electricity" is John Shirley vocals and lyrics, Chris Cunningham and Jerry Antonias music. Same thing with:

"Got no Fear" - a dance song for the present age of fear, replete with vinyl pops. Also by JS and Chris C and Obsession.

All lyrics and vocals here by John Shirley except "Yeah You" lyrics boy Corboy, 'They're Makin' Money' sung by Michael Layne Heath (lyrics by JS).

John Shirley is an author, screenwriter and singer/songwriter. He writes lyrics for the Blue Oyster Cult and others, and for his own recordings. He wrote the first four drafts of the script for THE CROW, and shares screencredit for that film with David Schow. He is the winner of the Bram Stoker award (Bram Stoker created Dracula, award is given by the Horror Writers of America) for his story collection BLACK BUTTERFLIES. He's the author of Demons, Cellars, In Darkness Waiting, the cyberpunk classic City Come A-Walkin', Eclipse, A Splendid Chaos, Bleak History, Black Glass and many other books. His new story collection is LIVING SHADOWS from Prime Books. His only nonfiction book is Gurdjieff: An Introduction to His Life and Ideas. . .

The Weinstein Company is "moving ahead" with plans for a movie based on John Shirley's novel DEMONS. His Alternative Apocalypse novel THE OTHER END has recently been also optioned for development as a movie.

John Shirley's forthcoming new novels are the urban fantasy novel BLEAK HISTORY from Simon and Schuster and BLACK GLASS (the "lost cyberpunk novel") from ESP.

John Shirley was the original lead singer of the seminal punk band Sado-Nation (wrote Johnny Paranoid etc) and the New York punk funk band Obsession. He's now fronting a band called The Screamin' Geezers. He lives in the San Francisco area. . .

Excepting vocals by Michael Layne Heath on "They're Makin' Money", lyrics and vocals on the songs here are by John Shirley. Musicianship and composition of music by Dave Corboy and SadoNation for "Johnny Paranoid," Tony DeStefano for "Essence".

On Pain in the Shade, You Deserve Me Baby and They're Makin' Money (You Can't Argue With That), lyrics and vocals by J. Shirley (except where I've noted, on one song, ML Heath sang), guitar, keyboards and musical composition by Michael Layne Heath; Guitar and Bass and mutual songwriting by Ryan Lendt; drums and some production ideas by Andrew Griffin.

BLUE OYSTER CULT albums with lyrics by John Shirley are HEAVEN FORBID, and CURSE OF THE HIDDEN MIRROR, available on iTunes. There are 16 songs with lyrics by JS on those two albums. Key songs with lyrics by JS: Damaged, The New Gods Return, Pocket, See You in Black, Live for Me, The Power Underneath Despair, Dancing on Stilts.

John Shirley and the Panther Moderns are found on the new Mabuhay Records compilation "The Best of the Mabuhay" with the Mutants and Razorburns and other fine bands. Mabuhay will be releasing the Panther Moderns album Red Star.

Awesome... went and checked out the brink links! You and I agree on Watchmen, I thought the film was probably as good as it could have been considering how dense the book is.
Speaking of book to film adaptations, what's happening with Demons?

CyberSpud, the SubGenius magazine for hardwired potatoes, has been accidentally uploaded to the Internet, and I have pulled down each page and posted it to my Pics section in the gallery called "CyberSpud".

This issue contains an interview with the Rev. Ivan Stang, UFO investigator Stanton T. Friedman and a cyberpunk story by G. Gordon Gordon.

Check out this ultra-swank magazine and leave comments for Cardinal Sin, the bankroller of this controversial magazine--some call it a hoax, others say disinformation--YOU DECIDE.

Gil says check it out.

My profile is located at www. myspace. com/idonebeenlockedout

You can find this rag there.

Thanks, Rev.
Shirley!
