   About jointpop
HISTORY:  Formed in 1996 in Trinidad and Tobago, jointpop the Rock n Roll group includes singer/songwriter Gary Hector (Guitar-Vocal) and Damon Homer (Guitar).

INFLUENCES: jointpop: The name will suggest a wide range of influences (join pop music styles together). Some Clash style rants to Velvet-like laid back grooves with Dylanesque lyrics. Some Stones, NeilYoung, Marley, TheMightySparrow, U2, Beatles, Pistols c.. jointpop.

(1999) Port-of-Spain Style:
Critically acclaimed in its homeland (TnT) with heavy radio rotation for tracks After1/2 past nine (plus video), Urgent (plus video), King Radio and Lost in Space. Sold extremely well in TnT and independently in New York and Miami.

Released on 19/10/02….The local entertainment press had a ball with this record. Radio play for tracks (I hate)Entertainment, exile, baby La Belle Rosette and The New Fast Food saw jointpop gain a wider audience base. An animated video for The New Fast Food also broke new ground.

(2004) jointpop (5 song EP)
The lead track, Let's Pray (for Rock n Roll) topped local online Radio charts and the EP includes jointpop classics;   Radio Luxembourg, The Water Supreme, Voodoo vs. Voodoo and Monsta Me.

Jointpop - Single - Please Don't Tell My In-Laws (I'm An Outlaw) / Monday Morning Love Situation (UK)…(April 2009)

Charging punk pushes then barges and is downright rude in the face of garage/blues rock, as the Trinidad & Tobago formed renegades of jointpop, grabs hold of the ballsy spirit and slight reggae leanings of The Clash.

They ruggedly weld together a gnarly snippet of self belief spewing, retro licking, ‘Please Don’t Tell My In-laws (I’m An Outlaw)'.

70’s bemusement spews out of the slow churning, funk rocking ‘Monday Morning Love Situation’. The vocals take a lean towards the direction of Jake Burns, bemusement and anarchy are flashed with quirky abandon.

Gary Hector displays enough vocal agility on this double A sided tempter, to unveil the undoubted potential of the expansive backing band that includes the almost hypnotic, rhythmic guitar touch of Damon Homer. Suggesting that jointpop can boldly tread back into the past and still retain a needed degree of freshness.

Here's one that really is a bit different; Jointpop, perhaps the name gives you a clue, a raunchy melee of joined-up pop with attitude and more than a bit of charisma - singalongable, danceable and totally joininable good-time party music.

Jointpop sound like nobody other than Jointpop; the way they've managed to pull together a few scratchy Caribbean influences, some elementary elements of punk and some basic rock themes and come up with a wonderfully poppish sound is quite unbelievable. Although distinctly modernesque, there is also quite a retro feel to Jointpop's catchy music and the end product is, strangely, some kinda party-themed, hand-clappin, foot stompin, joyously happy sound that just gets under yer skin (in the nicest possible way!).

With summer on the way I can easily see Jointpop making a big impression with their rough-edged but infectiously compelling heart-warming wares; imagine, cold beer in the gazebo, spicy jerk chicken finishing on the BBQ, speakers throbbin on a hot sweaty night and much dancin' and a'prancin' round the garden - just put Jointpop on the deck and let it rip - they'll get the party started alright!!

My one doubt about Jointpop's somewhat quirky way is that it could so easily get out of control and just become a short-lived gimmicky pop phase that'll blow itself out all too soon. I really hope not though cuz Jointpop are at least offering something with a bit of sparkle to it, something inherently simplistic but really smart, something to bring a smile to yer face and put a spark in yer step. 'Please Don't Tell My In-Laws (I'm An Outlaw)' / 'Monday Morning Love Situation' by Jointpop sticks two fingers up at pop convention and kicks sand in the face of indie normality - lovely stuff!!

9.Jointpop (Liquid Ship, Glasgow - July 2008)

Visiting from Trinidad and Tobago were Jointpop. The tiny basement of the Liquid Ship seemed barely big enough to contain their classic rock sound as they truly rattled the rafters. I'm still playing that air guitar now.

JOINTPOP REVIEW by Simon Phillips

Its not often that you will hear the words ‘rock band’ and ‘Trinidad and Tobago’ mentioned in the same breath, which is why I was surprised when I found out that ‘Jointpop’ were from T&T. Its refreshing to hear a band from a country such as Trinidad taking influences from musicians like Neil Young, U2, and The Beatles but when they start to play it all becomes clear. Jointpop are a five-piece band that has been going for some time now and in fact formed way back in 1996. They have toured and released various albums and DVD’s but have yet to break in to the big time. In terms of underground success though, they have seemingly done it all.

What makes this band stand out musically is the smooth gritty vocals from front man Gary Hector who with his flowing long dreadlocks looks different to how he sounds. His vocals are somewhat similar to Stereophonics singer Kelly Jones in the way his voice really suits the feel of the music he is playing. Nothing emphasis this more than the mellow sounding song ‘Yoko Ono’ which is the kind of rock song you could listen to whilst watching the sun go down.

The whole feel and vibe coming from this band is a real ‘feel-good’ sound with good solid guitars and drumming which really does not put their music that far from their influences mentioned earlier.

If you are like me and are quite intrigued by the sound of this unique band coming out of Trinidad, then hop on over to their Myspace and hear some more! Go to www.myspace.com/jointpop Simon Phillips

The review of the jointpop album “The January Transfer Window”

Get happy with jointpop, an alluring talent with an abundance of terrific tunes. Their new album, “The January Transfer Window” has some of the best indie/rock songs you will hear throughout 2008. “Yoko Ono” is instantly infectious with husky vocals completed with charming guitar riffs. You would imagine this band to be an immense festival band with their excellently written sunny songs. Harking back to a genre and artists before them, jointpop possess a little of the nineties Brit scene, which only adds to their likeable qualities. Carrying no attitude or image, these guys are simply an immense talent with equally good songs. “The Spelling Bee” is a cute song with great lyrics, catchy guitar riffs and the fabulous vocals from lead singer Gary Hector. I am hooked on their fantastic new album, give these fellows a listen and you will be too. jointpop are definitely one to watch out for in 2008.

"Charging punk pushes then barges and is downright rude in the face of garage/blues rock, as the Trinidad & Tobago formed renegades of jointpop, grabs hold of the ballsy spirit and slight reggae leanings of The Clash."

"Monday Morning Love Situation is a well-written pop song with touches of Joan Jett and The Ramones."
http://www.music-news.com (April 2009)

"Swung together on spit and saw dust, Jointpop combine the ragged, passionate delivery of the Clash via The Wildhearts on a particularly scuzzy garage rock trip… Impressive!"
http://www.subba-cultcha.com (April 2009)

"This is how pop music should sound" something I’ve read a thousand times in reviews, feels kind of like a cop out and an easy / lazy thing to say but I’m going to have to bite the bullet and use it just this once, Jointpop’s double A-side is how pop music should sound.
http://www.dieshellsuit.co.uk (April 2009)

"It’s a firm middle finger to pops conventional sound, flowing along to its own catchy beat, and it’s one which should, given the summer season’s a-coming, be flowing out of everyone’s nearest speaker. Very, very good indeed."

"'Please Don't Tell My In-Laws (I'm An Outlaw)' / 'Monday Morning Love Situation' by Jointpop sticks two fingers up at pop convention and kicks sand in the face of indie normality - lovely stuff!!"

"Gary Hector's vocals have a suitably rich and confident tone that suggests his place in rock history is already reserved.."
www.bluesbunny.com (July 2008)

"jointpop's songs are massively influenced by classic British rock (think the Rolling Stones crossed with calypso and sunshine)."
Zofia Niemtus, metro.co.uk (July 2008)

"Incorporating a powerful mix of piano, guitar solos and fabulous drums, Jointpop have inherited a sound that is second to none. A happy, summery, band with a host of belting songs that will have you hitting the repeat button over and over."
Carla Callaghan, http://icscotland.co.uk (May 2008)

"The songs on 'TJTW' are excellently written"
Scorch Magazine (May 2008)

"The January Transfer Window has some of the best indie/rock songs you will hear throughout 2008".
Reverb Magazine (Mar 2008)

"If you want to hear a band and a record that you never heard before that delivers unique, honest and welcoming rock and roll, The January Transfer Window is a definite get".
The Architect, ownthismusic.com (Nov 2007)

"Desperate Houseflies is a valuable document, showcasing a hardworking band that deserves to tell its story—and to have it heard. Lovelace’s depiction is at once revealing, optimistic and very beautiful".
Gillian Moore, Trinidad Guardian (Oct 2007)

"The January transfer Window, jointpop's latest CD, is the band's most assured and satisfying release to date, and it will be an outright tragedy if it proves anything less than a success".
Caribbean Beat (Oct 2007)

"The January Transfer Window is a refreshing take on the band's style, presenting innovation, but never losing sight of the heart and soul of jointpop".
Liam Camps, Trinidad Guardian (July 2007)

"Memorable, danceable melodies, poetic lyrics, and skillful-at times brilliant-instrumentation, energy, humour and bad-ass attitude".
Gillian Moore, Trinidad Guardian (June 2007)
