Growing up in South Louisiana with no natural pull or interest in music, Jon never imagined becoming a musician, much less doing music for a living. His parent’s gift of an Ibanez acoustic guitar for his high school graduation was so out of the blue that Jon nearly pawned it to get what every 18-year-old fresh out of high school needs. Cash!
Jon never stepped into that pawnshop, but rather began to learn how to play this foreign instrument and eventually write songs with it. He also learned that God’s ways were far from typical as a music ministry was birthed and unforeseen doors began opening in unbelievable ways.
Abel recently garnered his first Gold Record for his song, “Awesome Is The Lord Most High” which was covered on Chris Tomlin’s two-time Grammy Nominated See The Morning album. An artist/writer with Nashville's Universal/Brentwood Benson Music, Jon’s songs have been featured on projects like sixstepsrecord’s Passion-Everything Glorious CD, Worship Leader Magazine’s SongDISCovery compilations and publications such as Christianity Today, Relevant magazine, and Worship Musician Magazine.
Based in Dallas, TX with his wife Sue and their three children, Jon is the worship leader at Highland Park Presbyterian’s 1105 Gathering. Whether it’s leading on Sunday mornings or playing at events nation-wide, Jon’s heart is to help people clearly see the greatness, wonders and glory of God through his music, family, and community.
