DISCOGRAPHY
'Moth Nor Rust' (2009)
Recorded in early 2009, 'Moth Nor Rust' contains 10 new songs performed solo, live, and without overdubs in an effort to musically reflect the lyrical themes of simplicity and essence. 'No Mean City' looked at exteriors; 'Ours And The Shepherds', the results of such a limited view. Conversely, 'Moth Nor Rust' looks inward and to all that neither 'moth nor rust' can touch. It attempts a balanced view of who we are versus who we could be. It warns us, yes, but its first purpose is to offer hope, possibility, and the idea that “if we give what's within us, what's within us will save us.” I admit, 'a return to simplicity and to essences’ is no new theme, however, what I see today is a time that has not just lost its way, but a time that has accepted its lost condition as ho-hum, inevitable. These new songs are assertive and morally instructive - and, I'm sure to some, to a fault. My favourite writers have always been unapologetic moralists: they wrote because they believed their world should and could be made better. If I can’t feel in some way either attuned to or, at least, actively inspired by such urgent writing, I couldn’t fairly justify adding to the mushrooming claptrap and clutter.
In the song, 'The Crying Of The Times (Reprise)', there is an allusion to Pete Seeger and Malvina Reynolds for a reason: if I had to name but one influence behind this collection it would be Mr. Seeger. I considered naming the CD after one Seeger's earlier album titles: ‘Hard Hitting Songs For Hard Hit People.' I'll borrow that one later; for now the title is taken from Matt. 6:19-21.

I am always so sad to see a much loved building disappear but glad I took the time to document it.
One I have been photographing for 3 years disappeared over the last month (the White House in the album linked below). I photographed a derelict cottage resort that I had passed for years without thinking much about and three days later it was gone....
If you have the time, here are some of the abandoned places and things that I have been photographing.

Thanks for the note! I am a HUGE fan and listen to your music on a regular basis - I love the poetry and meaning in your words, the simplicity of your arrangements that cut to the message in each song, and the raw honesty you present within each slice of music. I would love to have you play in this corner of the north, I see you're in Edmonton November, there isn't really a venue though - perhaps Prince Albert would be the closest viable option. Although you could always do a money losing house concert here which I would love to host! Dara
