“One of our most emotionally revealing and
talented singer-songwriters” – Vanity Fair
This spring marks the return of maverick songsmith Joseph Arthur with the release of two EPs - the raw, atmospheric pop of ‘Could We Survive’ (March 18th / Lonely Astronaut), followed by the near-techno and wonderfully chaotic ‘Crazy Rain’ (April 15th). Arthur and his own label, Lonely Astronaut Records, will be releasing a series of four EPs this year, leading up to the full-length ‘Temporary People’ (September 30th). The final two will be available nationally June 10th and July 8th.
‘Could We Survive’ and ‘Crazy Rain’ are the follow-ups to Joseph’s two critically acclaimed full-length albums, both released in 2006 - ‘Let’s Just Be’ (“it’s a ride and it’s a good one” – NY Times) and ‘Nuclear Daydream,’ hailed by Paste Magazine as “endlessly ponderable and disturbingly beautiful.”
An acclaimed painter and Grammy-nominated visual artist, Joseph often creates his artwork while taking breaks during writing and recording. He has written, performed and produced nearly all of the music on these five albums and recorded most of the material in his newly opened Brooklyn art gallery, the Museum of Modern Arthur.
Catch Joseph Arthur at SXSW and on tour throughout the spring and summer, and visit his ongoing exhibition at the Museum of Modern Arthur, like you should.
‘Could We Survive’ track listing: 1) “Rages of Babylon,” 2) “Morning Cup,” 3) “Shadows
of Lies,”
4) “Could We Survive,” 5) ”Walk Away,” 6) “King of the Pavement”

Here is a song written soon after Hurricane Katrina struck. There is a line in it "Everybody lost their home in a wind named Katrina." Not only the people of New Orleans but all Americans were abandoned in the wake of this catastrophe. There is still much to be done.

There’s a disarray in our parting. The jerked motion of subways, doors agape like gleaming teeth, tracks broken incisors.
We create movement in our bodies - an invisible pulling, a sudden coma, waking to the sound of fleeing rain, bodies lulled like the sedative stare of startled birds
and our small capsized mouths in which no sound emits.
Under the bright light, under surgical precision, imperfections are examined and bit by bit, the glove of your hand exposes a lung. Air collapses like a winged creature flapping at the edges of some broken cage. It enters the only prison it knows.
Greetings. I just wanted to thank you for your continued support and invite you to have a first listen on myspace to the tracks off the new EP "Monster & Minstrel" due out later this month. Bright stars to you! Ahmond
As I said some weeks ago, I wrote somethin' on MaXoE about your concert in Marseille. It's in French, but if someone knows French around you, this person could surely translate it for you (if you're interested of course :)).
Michelle (hope Joseph reads it too): what you wrote made me think about a story i wanted to share with Joseph but could'nt find the words..and now i'm inspired by you:) It happened last summer, when i went to Alma(Quebec) to see him..Joseph&TheLonelyAstronauts was the last part of the 'Festival des Musiques Actuelles'. The first part of the night was ensured by a french hip-hop group called 'PayzPlay'. I didnt know them, but i was completely open minded to hear new music, no matter what kind it was going to be.. I swear, that my mind stayed wide open, until' my ears couldn't hear 1 more word. I really wished that i could'nt understand french at this moment.. I could see how these guys had the power of 'entertainement'..but they were using it so awfullY! They were completely laughing at the crowd..maliciously. And the people never seemed to realize..(or liked it?), dancing on the electro-beat, like beautiful robots, ready to hear the ugliest crap just to be entertained. I thought i was gonna go insane, when Joseph finally arrived on stage to end this nightmare. Seriously i'll always remember that immense relief i had at this moment. This was intense..like it was totaly Black and White. Just to give you an idea..here's the cover of PayzPlay album: -Dark Side Of The Play...- My ears are still hurting from this...
