Raised in corn and soy bean fields on the outskirts of Greentown--a one-stoplight stop-and-go in central Indiana--singer/songwriter Josephine Johnson now makes Eureka, California, her home and considers it a powerful, primary creative force. Her songs speak of love, loss, triumph and return conveyed through outdoor imagery and subtle story telling. With keen attention to melody, she can sing you back to the lightning bug-lit meadows and tree tops of rural Indiana.
And yes, she can sing.
Her influences range from Joan Baez, Carol King & Streisand to Bonnie Rait, Cheryl Crow and Neko Case. She performs regularly in Humboldt County with members of the jazz trio Weather Machine and looks forward to the day (soon!) when Josephine and the Weather Machine will take the west coast by storm.
Come here her sing solo and entertain each Tuesday at Has Beans in Eureka, California, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. She performs a variety of familiar tunes--especially late '60's/ 1970's folk--along with her original compositions. Catch her set this Tuesday afternoon at Has Beans, so you can tell your friends "I saw her when..."
Hey Jo, now I remember they guy, I hope to work with him some day. Right now I am attempting to get my business back up and running so I am beating bushes for ad revenue, it is challenging but I have a backer who is going to cover what I can't raise, so the project is a go, but meanwhile I have to apply myself. Starting tomorrow I work 5 straight and then 6 shifts down at the mall, that shop is doing well and the owner is leaving for a bit and so I'm holding down the fort. I manage to make it a fun thing for myself, so I'm attached to the job now and thrilled not to be doing something that stresses out my body or spirit, and my employer allows for me being cheerful and going on cleaning fits as much as I want, so it is cool for me... Hope you are doing well and happy and had good vacation.
Hey Josephine, how U. B.?? Do you have a CD for me. I'm booking flights soon. Will July 5th through Aug. 20th work for the gigs you want to do. Blessings ~David
