   About Josh Weinstein
"Best of 2006"
—WFUV (staff pick)
—NPR.ORG

"An artist through and through...Weinstein is in complete command of his instrument." --KQMT, Denver

"Leaves the usual crowd of folk-based singer-songwriters miles behind." --Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange

“Few artists still exist that are willing to explore the human condition, and luckily Weinstein is one of them. [Brooklyn Is Sinking] is a polished album that retains its soul and collects some excellent songs that will hopefully add to Weinstein’s existing success as a singer-songwriter. Bravo.” —Being There Magazine

"A superb writer, pianist and performer." --WOR Radio

"Listen to Brooklyn is Sinking and it becomes quickly apparent that Weinstein isn’t interested in courting the “cool” sound of today. Though the album has a contemporary feel, thanks to a sardonic writing style and occasional excursions into funk, the album is the sound of an artist who has absorbed his influences not simply by listening to a bunch of recordings...but by paying his dues the old-fashioned way. Brooklyn is Sinking is a soundtrack fit for lonely nights spent in hotel bars with a liberal helping of wine." --The Daily Vault, featured review

"Josh Weinstein's Brooklyn Is Sinking blends rock, blues and jazz into a neat package of musical perfection. Reviewer's Rating: 9" —Celebrity Cafe

"Weinstein writes from deep within himself, committing blood, grit, and sensitivity to paper, creating a highly original masterwork filled with remarkable warmth and craftsmanship. Sensational." --Blogcritics.org

"Like Charles Bukowski minus the in-your-face-vulgarity." --24/7

"Very, very cool." --Radio Crystal Blue

******************************

The "official" bio/fact sheet:
Grew up in Poughkeepsie, NY. Spent childhood weekends in New York City--mostly in bars--with father.

Mother was 60's folk singer/songwriter and recording artist, grandmother was a concert cellist who had a weekly radio performance program on the CBC in Canada.

Began studying piano and writing music at age 10.

English major in college, Literature in grad school. Worked as bartender, jingle-writer and friday-night "Hey, how ya doing, thanks for listening" cocktail jazz piano player to pay for grad school.

Worked in the "real world" as a writer, editor, and advertising copywriter. Clients included American Express (Blue), Allstate, and other paragons of corporate and personal virtue. Wrote music and played piano in a variety of bands at night.

Lived in Colorado, then California. Then Washington, DC and Maine. Moved back to New York City in late 1999.

Lived two buildings south of the World Trade Center towers. Was there for the attacks on September 11, 2001.

Went underground. Reevaluated. Slowed down. Recovered.

Quit job in 2002 to return to music full-time. Moved to Brooklyn.

Recorded first album, Petty Alchemy, in August, 2003. "There Ain't Nothing Sadder Than a Saturday Night," track 2 from that album, received Honorable Mention in the 2004 Billboard Song Contest.

Several cuts from Petty Alchemy received regional and national airplay.

Second album, Brooklyn Is Sinking, released on October 10, 2006. Appears on "Best of..." lists at WFUV and npr.org.

New album, Love & Alcohol, due out early 2009 on RandomLogo.

Weinstein has been heard on NPR's "All Things Considered," XM Satellite Radio, Sirius Satellite Radio, and hundreds of other stations across the country.

The CD was worth waiting for - promptly added to my iPod. Don't really know why people buy a CDs worth of tune from iTunes, when for $2 more (from Amazon), you can have the physical CD with all the artwork and geek info.

Again - awesome work - looking forward to hearing more. Please let us know if you ever get down to Florida.

BTW, I started using my blogging tool and have been having a lot of fun with it. I hope you'll come by and subscribe when you get the chance.

So after we parted ways on sixth ave the skies opened up and I was drenched...not so unpleasant as it was 65 degrees out. Fast forward to the next morning...chest cold to rival tuberculosis.
Great to run into you all the same...the tunes are so great and I really hope to make it on the ninth. Stick it to the man.
