From the 2 AM desert heat of Arizona and Utah's finest nightclubs, to packing posh dance-floors with an ocean view, Jared "J.Paul" Jackson is no stranger to the art of "crowd control and aural pleasure".
At an early age, J. began to immerse himself into any form of music that he could get his hands on. Although there was only one record/ musical instrument shop in J.'s home town, it was owned and operated by his grandfather. This made it easy to spend the days either learning guitar, keyboards and drums or breaking the finest in record needles trying to learn the art of "workin' the turntables".
While studying jazz performance, music theory and composition all through high school and well into college, J. could never get over his infatuation of records, big synth sounds and of course, huge, pounding rhythms. In 1999, while living in Cape Town, South Africa, J. was exposed to a whole new world of electronic music. The sounds of House, Trance and Drum n' Bass could be heard blaring from almost every car and eating establishment. Not to mention that no weekend was complete without hearing the sounds of DJ's such as Pete Tong and Carl Cox echoing from the local soccer and rugby stadiums near by. Needless to say... he got it! Returning home to the U.S. and finding himself on a path that led to the DJ booth was inevitable.
Climbing quickly through the ranks, J.Paul's eclectic style branded him as one of Salt Lake City, Utah's most versatile and in-demand DJ's . Jumping from opening spots with Hip-Hop artists such as Ice Cube, Lil' Wayne and Too Short, to working and sharing the stage with the likes of Tiesto, Kaskade, Paul Oakenfold and B.T., J. was able to learn the art AND business of DJing from the best in the game. J.Paul soon put 2 and 2 together by using his production and song writing skills to create his own sound to use behind the decks.
After relocating to Scottsdale, AZ. in late 2007, J.'s career would soon take a turn for the better. While playing in the club scenes of the Phoenix/ Scottsdale area all the way to the coast in La Jolla, Ca. J. spent any time not behind turntables, confined in his studio. This proved to be the right kind of sacrifice, and most definitely the right place and time for his sound to be heard.
In April of 2008, J.Paul signed to up and coming "Dance Music Label, Carrillo Music." His first release on this label,"Chemical Dependence," will be available summer 2008. "Chemical Dependence" is a haunting track made possible by the captivating vocals of Skaught Parry complimented by Chris Ruff of the band "Kaddisfly." While preparing for the release of this track, J.Paul has stayed busy writing an arsenal of follow-up tracks and rockin' the dance floors of the desert. Though it goes without saying, keep an eye on this fresh artist... he's only just getting started !
