BIO
Jonathan "J-Ronin" Marvin, an ‘80’s baby and native to the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, is a true product of his environment: Growing up going to park jams and seeing classic Hip-Hop artists like Run DMC lay the foundation for Hip-Hop, solidified his interest in the urban music scene.
The ever changing culture that Dj Red Alert, Marly Marl and countless others pioneered further fueled his interest in deejaying: It wasn’t just the graffiti laden subways, break dancing and the urban culture of the streets that armored him with this interest: Hip-Hop was everywhere in Brooklyn and was such a strong contributor to his musical awareness, that getting involved one day was inevitable.
Ronin could be found most of the time at a Lower East Side community arts center in 1997 where he saw first hand how easy it was to organize, promote and set up shows as he assisted the ABC No Rio center with their events. There, he learned the “DIY Culture” or the Do It Yourself slogan, which aggressively promoted being independent and accomplishing personal and professional goals without giving in and selling out.
Ronin’s association with the center led him to form alliances with the, “The DMS Crew” and the “Crazy Bald Head Sound System”, who exposed Ronin to deejaying at house parties and other social events on the Lower East Side, Harlem and Brooklyn.
Between deejaying and doing underground record distribution for independent hardcore Rock music labels, Ronin began creating his own “pause tapes” of Hip-Hop, Rock and Reggae, which segued into his career as “Mix Tape Deejay”.
Ronin then founded the “All Elements Empire”, a network of mc’s, producers, managers, marketers and show promoters. The organization encompasses all elements of music, film, art and martial arts of which, Ronin is proficient in several arts.
Network affiliates are stationed throughout Chicago, Miami, San Francisco, Boston, Atlanta, London, Paris, Tokyo, Zurich, LA, Nottingham (UK) and Portugal to name a few. J-Ronin has produced eleven volumes since it’s establishment in April of 2005.
Ronin was nominated for two “Justo MixTape” Awards, “Rookie of the Year” and “Underground DJ of the Year” in 2006.
According to Undercover Magazine in the UK, “J-Ronin may very well be the next Mix Tape king”.
Ronin is featured in the Brooklyn Pictorial (Jan-Feb Issue) of Juice Magazine (Germany) alongside Papoose, MOP, Red Café and GZA.
Currently Ronin is completing All Elements, Volume 7 scheduled for release in April of 2007 and is hosted by Saigon.
Ronin also manages his artist, Sav Killz and co-manages Cosmo, a young Bronx producer.
Deejay J-Ronin’s unique name has it’s roots in ancient Japanese Samurai culture: A Ronin is a master-less samurai, one who bows before no one, who has no boss and who works with people but not for them.
Ronin identifies him self and his deejay style to be that of a “gourmet meal” compared to that of his fast-food-style opponents:
“I get exclusives from artists. I don’t rock the same diss track everybody else uses for their Mix Tapes. With me it’s about quality over quantity.”
Dj Ronin’s name along with his All Elements Organization continues to captivate growing audiences throughout the country and abroad as he stylistically blends his love for classic Hip-Hop with the sounds and trends of contemporary artists, paving the way for the future standard of Hip-Hop music.
