JT - So I am sorry I haven't been responding to all your phone calls and the stack of registered mail from you just keeps piling up unopened. It's not you, it's me. That great man Fleetwood Mac said it best, "players only love you when they're playing." And that's just it, I haven't been playing the way I should be, be it with others or just playing with myself, and that has put a bit of a damper on my relationship with you (and to a much smaller and practically insignificant degree Sasha, but you know, she's just arm candy.)

I'd like to make it up to you. Firstly I'd like to give you some pointers on how to make it in the music business, some things I learned when I played in the pep band back in high school. There are some things that will really open your eyes and let you see the truth in the biz as I like to call it. Here, I'll give you one right now to whet your appetite and get you on a better path: story songs. In your case, more words in general - when was the last time you even kept regular time time while someone else (let's face it, your best shot is to accompany someone with talent) sang something great about their lost love or the way god shines through in the hard times? See, you can't even remember. All of those rudderless, drug addicted jazz men have poisoned your reason. Wake up my friend.

Secondly - and I'll wrap my message up on this positive note - I think I have a non-music based job for you, to get you through these hard times you have been having the last several years. Have you ever traveled by bus down through Mexico and into Central America, sleeping by day and trading sundry items by night for food and water? If you haven't this job is perfect.

I still won't be able to return your calls and letters, so if you'd like to take me up on this life-changing help I am offering I will need you to send me a telegram. As always, my best to you and Tasha.

That gig I did with Carrothers was in Avignon - South of Paris a few hours on the bullet. Concert in the middle of a very old church courtyard.
