  • Bio

Late 2010 and early 2011 has seen Judd play the Triple Door for the Swedish Housewife's Gypsy Rose Lee Centennial Celebration, the Tractor with Andrew Mckaeg, (Presidents of the United States of America) for the annual Double album Christmas Benefit, and at the Sunset, playing the entire "Dark Side of the Moon" record for Musicares. Early January holds a gig at Teatro Zinzanni, along with a host of solo shows along with collaborations with Gold Mountain and others. Judd has often been compared to Cat Stevens, Nick Drake, and James Taylor. He was once said to have been "a cross between James Taylor and Trey Anastasio." "He has a rich voice tempered with influences of Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens, and maybe a few others we are unable to immediately recall, but it's also just Judd, original and new and very much his own thing; but he's better than both, because he has something close to perfect pitch...And he swings, with spots of sophisticated inflection; he understands a lyric and knows how to turn a phrase or note with a subtle expressive twist..."--Terrance Knight, The Sitting Duck, Olympia, WA. "Judd Wasserman's lyrics are few but well chosen, and complement the instrumentation perfectly."--Josh Boss, Ourstage.com

Bio:

"Judd is a diversely talented performer/songwriter whose experiments in multiple genres have contributed to the complexity of his solo acoustic work. Known for stints in NW bands as a guitarist, drummer, bassist, and singer, he is a talented and underappreciated veteran of the NW scene. Seattle is lucky to have him!"--Sam Tsohonis, Nowthwest Musician A few facts: Judd just signed a digital distribution deal with SideCho Media in December, 2009. Judd was commissioned by Pacific Rims Percussion in 2008. In 2008, Judd's band, Forget Me Nots released the album, “House.” In 2005, Judd appeared in and engineered a recording in the film “Kurt Cobain About a Son”. "He has a rich voice tempered with influences of Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens, and maybe a few others we are unable to immediately recall, but it's also just Judd, original and new and very much his own thing; but he's better than both, because he has something close to perfect pitch...And he swings, with spots of sophisticated inflection; he understands a lyric and knows how to turn a phrase or note with a subtle expressive twist..."--Terrance Knight, The Sitting Duck, Olympia, WA. Influences:

I remember listening to "Thriller" with my dad a whole lot as a kid. Bon Jovi was a big favorite then, too. Eventually, I got as into Metallica as one can get, until after the black album, anyway. My dad stepped back in early on in high school when he gave me his old record collection. There, I sifted through and fell in love with the Beatles, Stones, Earth, Wind and Fire, Santana, Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers, etc. Around this time I also discovered James Brown, Parliament and Funkadelic, and importantly, Phish. I got into jazz and bluegrass as result of listening to and seeing Phish live. That was 1995. I should also mention the influence of hip-hop on me from a young age. DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Tribe Called Quest, ABC, BBD, etc. Later, I enjoyed Dr. Dre and Snoop thoroughly. Now, my daughter is listening to Ludacris. I like his quirky, clever lyrics and his sense of humor. He doesn't seem to take himself seriously at all, which is very refreshing in the rap world. I also like the Dixie Chicks a whole lot, but I couldn't name more than a couple of their songs. Bela Fleck, Mike Marshall, and pretty much anything they touch I am down with as well. I also appreciate and find genuine enjoyment out of listening to Tchaikovsky, Messiaen, Beethoven, Bach, etc. To name a few more, I like Deerhoof an awful lot right now. I appreciate a lot of Death Cab's stuff. I also love local music and music made by my friends. Joe Capoccia, Kendl Winter, The Elderly...and anything Ty Bailie does (which is a lot!) I can't forget about James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Elliott Smith, Cat Stevens, Hendrix, and the old bluesmen...Mississippi John Hurt, Sonny Terry, Muddy Waters, John Lee, Freddie King...blues is a language that cannot die.
