Lots of Celtic (Irish and Scottish), English, Appalachian and Southern folk. My folk group Fairfield Crossing. Contra dance music by Wild Notes, Wild Asparagus, Swallowtail, Moving Violations, Janie Rothfield and Jane's Gang, Donna Hebert and Groovemama, Rodney Miller and Airdance, Lise Brown and Big Bandemonium, Nightingale, Beaverwyck String Band, my own group the Reel Thing. Nora Jones, Jewel, Charlie Parker, Nestor Torres (great jazz flautist), David Sanborne, Gypsy Kings, the Chieftains, Sinead O'Connor, Altan, Gaelic Storm, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Beatles of course, Moody Blues, Jethro Tull, Genesis (whether it's with Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins). Itzhak Perlman, James Galway. Woody Guthrie. Kingston Trio, New Christy Minstrels. Johnny Cash, David Grisman, Doc Watson, Bill Monroe, Roger Sprung and Hal Wylie. Leo Kretzner, Jean Ritchie. Annie and the Hedonists. Too Blue, a great local swing/bluegrass group who writes their own stuff. Hoe, another wonderful Connecticut bluegrass group. Gordon Lightfoot. Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Carly Simon. The Kerry Boys. I just discovered Rashaan Roland Kirk, who was the most amazing flute and sax player - he was Ian Anderson's (of Jethro Tull) inspiration for how he plays the flute. Listen to Serenade to a Cuckoo - great stuff! He could play three saxes at once!!
電影
I'm either into action movies or sci fi stuff, or the romantic comedies. I do like happy endings ;-) Just off the top of my head - X-Men and X-Men 2, Serenity, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, Spiderman 1 and 2, Lethal Weapon 1 and 2, Superman 1 and 2 with the late, great Chris Reeves, Star Wars (a defining moment for me at the age of 21, lol), Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Sabrina (both the old and new versions). I'll add more as I think of them.
電視
I am not much of a television person, outside of scifi stuff. I really enjoy "Battlestar Galactica", and I also like "Bones". The latest fave is "Torchwood" on BBC America.
書籍
"The Dresden Files" books by Jim Butcher. Anything by David Eddings (The Belgariad, Belgarath the Sorcerer, Polgara the Sorceress). Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. Chronicles of Narnia. Dragonriders and Harpers of Pern. Yeah, yeah, lots of fantasy stuff lol....

Exciting news!! My band The Reel Thing, with caller Patricia Campbell, was featured in the Executive Pursuits column in the Business section of the May 3, 2008 Saturday edition of the New York Times! Check it out!
The Reel Thing appeared on Kevin Gallagher's public access TV show Time Out in February, 2007, playing contra dance music while caller Patricia Campbell and friends demonstrated some contra dance moves and explained what contra dancing is.
My other love is Celtic and American folk music, which I perform with Fairfield Crossing, and a trio called Chicks 'n Sync (Britt Goodman on hammered dulcimer and English concertina, Robin Reid on guitar and vocals).
This is a video of Fairfield Crossing recorded with Kevin Gallagher on his public access TV show Time Out in March, 2008, where we performed several Irish tunes ahead of St. Patrick's Day.
I have composed two tunes, which are in a tunebook of music by Connecticut contra musicians - it is called The Connecticut Sound, and it is edited and compiled by Mickey Koth. The book is now available by contacting Mickey - check out The Connecticut Sound web site. My tune Winter Sunset, as performed by Fairfield Crossing live in 2007, is listed here on my site. Take a listen - I hope you enjoy it!
You should also visit my good friend E.C. Bradley's site - she has come out with her second CD entitled Notes to Bethlehem! I am featured on three tracks on the CD, including God Rest Ye. Check it out!
Another person you should check out is my friend, artist Deborah Gillespie. She has her artwork posted on her Facebook site and her MySpace site. Go visit her!
Here is my calendar of where I will be performing in 2009:
During the school year - Immaculate High School concert band director, teaching daily, Danbury, CT.
Friday, December 4 with Fairfield Crossing - Mocha Coffeehouse, 3 Glen Road, Sandy Hook, CT, from 8 to 10 PM. Join us for a night of hot music in a wonderful venue with great coffees and teas, and scrumptious desserts. We are happy to be returning to Rob Kaiser's great coffeehouse on the banks of the Pootatuck River - be sure to join us! Visit Mocha's web site for more information!
Friday, December 18 with Chicks 'n Sync - Kasbah Garden Cafe, 105 Howe Street, New Haven, CT, 7 to 9 PM.
Saturday, January 2nd with Wry Bred (caller TBA) - New Haven Country Dance contra dance at the Branford Community Center, 46 Church Street, Branford, CT, 8 to 11 PM. Directions and schedule for NHCD.
I will be adding additional dates, so please check back!
And I would love to talk to you about music for your event or facility, so please contact me for availability and pricing. My e-mail address is julchek (at) sbcglobal.net . I have recently become eligible for New England States Touring funds through New England Foundation for the Arts - by visiting this site, you can apply for grant money with which to arrange for me and my fellow musicians to come to your town (outside of Connecticut) to provide a musical program for your group or venue!
Whether you are looking for ambient instrumental background music for a wedding ceremony, cocktail hour or open house, or a livelier program with engaging songs with vocals, I can tailor a program to fit your needs. It could be solo or duet flute music, or other instrumental (mandolin, hammered dulcimer, guitar, fiddle, concertina, tenor banjo) or vocal arrangements with one or more musicians accompanying me. I feature Celtic, folk, old-time, bluegrass, jazz and classical music for your enjoyment.
Over the years, I have played at a number of events and venues, either as a solo act, with one of my own groups, or with other musicians in the area. A partial listing of those events and venues is: Mocha Coffeehouse, Sandy Hook, CT; Molten Java Coffeehouse, Bethel, CT; Starbucks, Newtown, CT; Plain Jane's Restaurant, Bethel, CT; Booth Library, Newtown, CT; Gunn Library, Washington, CT; Warren Public Library, Warren, CT; Greenwich, Norwalk and Bethel Historical Societies; Danbury, New Milford and Windsor DARs; Danbury, New Haven, Branford, Round Hill, Wethersfield and Mystic Contra Dances; Opera Cafe, Bethel, CT; Cafe Little Europa, Brookfield, CT; Putnam House, Bethel, CT; Lucille's Steakhouse, Ridgefield, CT; Redding Roadhouse, Redding, CT; Greater Danbury Irish Festival, Danbury, CT; Bethel Chamber of Commerce Summertime Sidewalk Sales event; Gail's Station House, Ridgefield, CT; Sono Caffeine, South Norwalk, CT; St. Mary's Carnival, Bethel, CT; elementary school residencies (among them, Great Plain of Danbury, Anna Norris of East Hartford, Highland of Wallingford); elementary school family dances (among them, Longmeadow of Middlebury, Meetinghouse Hill of New Fairfield); Groovin' in New Fairfield Coffeehouse, New Fairfield, CT; Roxbury Pickin' and Fiddlin' festival and contest, Roxbury, CT; Philadelphia Folk Festival, Schwenksville, PA; Old Songs Festival, Altamont, NY; New Pond Farm, Redding, CT; Georgetown Saloon, Georgetown, CT; Ridgefield Rochambeau 225th anniversary ball, Ridgefield, CT; Almost Home, Danbury, CT; Sunny Valley Nature Conservancy Preserve, New Milford, CT; Landmark and Antiquarian Society events throughout Connecticut; Keeler Tavern, Ridgefield, CT; NOMAD Festival, New Haven, CT; Bethel Summer Sunday Night concert series, Bethel, CT; and many private functions as well.

Erick's finally off of school but we're real busy with his brother's wedding coming up. Dad & I leave for a trip to Mexico together next week! I'll be 4 days without the baby! How's the fam doing on your end?
Thanks! We went bowling on Saturday for my birthday with some family and friends, near where dad lives. On Sunday we went out to eat with my mom's side of the family. I'm glad to hear that you're doing well with the school! Thanks for adding me to your music sites too!
Hey! Glad to hear from you! The guys are doing fine. Ethan now stands well with support and dances and claps to music! He loves music! It must run in the family :) How's your school job going? Did you have any holiday concerts to prepare? Say hi to the fam and stay in touch. Love, Jamie
Thanks! Is the new job still going well? If you ever just need to vent about kids and how hard they are to teach, feel free. I've been there. Hope all is well with the family. Tell Uncle Ron and Eric that I say hello. I think that I still need to send you pictures from the baptism. Did I ever send them to you? I'll check today. Love ya - Jamie
Thanks for the comments Aunt Julie! I have some great pictures for you guys too from the baptism. I'll send them via slow mail one day soon. By the way, I love the music on your site.
