i have the kicka** privilege of playing with an incredible group of gentlemen...
most consistently, i play with shane borth, johnny griparic, guiliano mingucci, dave raven, nunzio signore, billy watts - not all at once, but....
it depends on where i am traveling and what's going on and who's around... you know how it goes...
...and then there's always the unexpected guest(s)
no matter with whom, it's always a pleasure
Influences
first and foremost, the musicians i have the pleasure of performing with and then whoever is there to listen... AND THEN... swan silvertones, mavis staples, staple singers, mojo monkeys, bb chunking and the buddaheads, ABBA (come ON), john mayer, robert johnson (come on in MY kitchen), nina simone, bill withers, sigur ros, beth hart, U2, concrete blond, aha, the kama sutra soundtrack, ali farka, sarah vaughan, dusty springfield, tracy chapman, sinead o'connor, ludovico einaudi, the proclaimers, norman dell joio, benjamin lees, beethoven, and bach's fugues.
Julia Othmer's debut studio album "oasis motel" was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Michael Blum (Madonna, Roger Daltrey, Suicidal Tendencies). An amazing array of musicians joined her including Johnny Griparic (Carole King), Herman Jackson (Stevie Wonder, Outkast), Matt Laug (Alanis Morissette, Slashs Snakepit), and Dean Pleasants (Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves).
She has a voice that can only be described as "Macy Gray meets Alicia Keys with a dash of Alanis Morissette," says Ear Candy Magazine. The NXNE Festival Guide calls her "a piano-playing siren making a mark with her fiery, passionate performances." "Oasis Motel is remarkable for several reasons - the most obvious being that it's hard to believe this is her first release," said music critic Brandon Whitehead for eKC online. "With ten original tracks of clear, crystalline vocals that evoke melodic sounds reminiscent of Patsy Kline to Anne De Franco [sic], Othmer shows how music is meant to be made."
Though recently relocated to West Hollywood, Julia has garnered a fast growing fan base from her other homebases in Philadelphia and Kansas City. She has performed at such venues as Philadelphia's World Café Live, WXPN's All About the Music Festival, the TLA, and the Tin Angel; New York City's Knitting Factory, Cutting Room and the Bitter End; and LA's Hotel Café. Julia was recently nominated at the Philly Music Awards for "Best Female Entertainer" and "Best Female Vocalist. She has shared the stage with a range of artists including Amos Lee, Regina Spektor, Ryan Star, John Waite, and eastmountainsouth.
Hi julia othmer, Heaven & Earth is on hiatus now as Stuart Smith and Richie Onori have joined forces with bassist Steve Priest to reform "Sweet". For those of you unfamiliar with the band, Sweet originally formed in the early 70s and went on to sell over 40,000,000 albums with 11 International Top Ten Hits such as "Ballroom Blitz", "Little Willy", "Love is Like Oxygen", "Fox on the Run", "Teenage Rampage", "Action", "Blockbuster", "Hellraiser" and many others.
This reincarnation of the band reformed last year, playing their first show in June, and went on to play festivals throughout Canada and the States and had played to over 300,000 people before the year was out.
