About me: Hello, I am Jürgen Welge.
I am a jazz drummer, playing mostly around town in the greater Kansas City area. Born in Minden, Germany, I went to school in Minden, later in Hildesheim, where I graduated at the "Gymnasium Andreanum" in 1976. After studies of music and history at the University of Bielefeld I went to the Hilversum Jazz Conservatory in the Netherlands (also known as Holland), where I graduated as a Jazz drummer and teacher in 1989. I stayed in Hilversum and later moved to Den Haag (The Hague) and Utrecht as a freelance musician. Being a member of the Bram Wijnands Trio and some other bands like Strange Tune Pictures, the Michael Arlt Trio and The Lost Wondering Blues & Jazz Band (feat. a young Madeleine Peyroux) I performed in Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Great Britain, The North Sea, Switzerland, Italy, Estonia, Russia and Hong Kong. The Collaboration of the Bram Wijnands Trio with Kansas City- based Blues and Jazz Singer Richard Ross (with the help of Michael Hanson and singer extraordinaire Deborah Brown) resulted in an invitation to perform in Kansas City, Missouri in 1992. At this first concert in the United States on July 23rd, 1992, I met my wife Sharon. I eventually moved to Kansas City, Missouri and became part of a vibrant local jazz scene. I have the pleasure of working with many different Kansas City- based Singers and Instrumentalists. I also teach applied percussion and band classes at the Kansas City Kansas Community College.
