I grew up on Motown and Harmony Bands
like the Eagles, Fleetwood, Doobies, Beatles,
James Taylor ect... Then I started diggin'
Aerosmith, Van Halen and U2. Now I'm all

C. Crows, Ben Harper and G. Love. I never
got into screaming. It was always bout
always singing sweet melodies...
Just a few years ago, California surfer Justin James stared down his own mortality as a woeful encounter with a tiger shark left him bleeding to death on a remote South American beach. Multiple blood transfusions and hundreds of stitches later, James found himself depleted, bedridden and bewildered for what was to become an agonizing year of recovery. It was during this harrowing stretch that an unlikely gift from his grandmother, a new acoustic guitar, revived his longing for life -- and unveiled a songwriter whose voice today has him dropping into a charmed world of travel and performance.
No doubt the experience reshaped James’ outlook on life, “It’s crazy to digest,” he offers. “That’s why I spend my life now chasing what I love the most: traveling, surfing and playing music.”
In 2007 James’ debut album “Sundrenched” was picked up and distributed by Universal. His hit single, “California,” made a huge splash on network television, scoring several hit shows including, The Hills, Laguna Beach, Las Vegas and What About Brian. In the meantime, this summertime hit has launched James into a deal that breaks every wave of his music into major department stores, restaurant chains, and clothing stores throughout the country. Recently enshrined as the official artist of Huntington Beach, California’s “Surf City, USA” brand, Justin James shows no signs of pearling anytime soon.
The surging success of “California” has paddled him into a “Best Male Vocalist” nod at the 2007 Los Angeles Music Awards; and most recently towed him into the international waters of Japan, where it peaked at number 5 on the Top 40 chart. This swell of support has secured James' a deal with Sony International and recently landed him in the studio with famed Producers Mikal Blue (Colbie Callait) & Andrew Williams (Five for Fighting) to record the follow up album “Perfect Sometimes” 2010
Justin James spends most of his days basking in the rays of his new lease on life: surfing and writing songs on the sun-baked shores of California and Hawaii, while sharing his music with tens of thousands of fans across the world. True to his character, James has not let this newfound success go to his head, “I realize now more than ever if the journey is not fun, then it’s not worth it. All I need is the ocean, my music and the means to travel. If I can continue to make this work professionally, I’m pretty much set.” From this moment to the future, Justin James continues to quench his dreams with his lust for life. His revival-inducing songs of love and living are surpassed only by his rousing and charismatic stage performance. Together, they conspire to ensure that the sun will never set on the ocean of opportunities that life presents Justin James.

"DJ Monkey …soul-stirring, excitingly edgy music…just disturbing (read ‘mind-f**king’) enough to demand attention. There is a whole spice rack of auditory flavors here, served up like fractured poetry on a collection of intensely listenable Hallmark cards from Hell." Bill Margold, Cinema Seen, L.A. X..Press
