WHO ARE WE? WHAT DO WE DO?
WE LOVE TO SCARE PEOPLE.
Knowledge for the Carnage spawned out of a recognized need for haunt actors to come together, share their knowledge and develop their craft.
In early 2005, a website called Hauntedconnection.com was developed by DreamReapers actor Steve Verdino. Many haunt actors from all over the country posted their characters and networked on the forums of the site. The most active members of the forums came from Northern Illinois and Wisconsin. Here, in discussion on the hauntedconnection.com forums, a haunted alliance was created amongst competing haunts that wanted to form positive and productive working relationships where they could learn from each other through seminars and workshops. While haunt industry conferences and conventions already offered this in other areas of the country, the costs for admission, lodging and travel was out of reach for many haunt actors many of which are high school/college age. They decided to establish something where their actors could learn, share and network for free/little cost.
DreamReapers created and hosted the first gathering in early spring 2005. It proved to be a huge success and attendees cried out on hauntedconnection.com forums that they wanted more! Word traveled fast and more actors from other areas as far away as Peoria, Illinois and Green Bay, Wisconsin were asking if another gathering would take place. More and more, actors requested series of these workshops in the spring and summer of 2005; therefore the Knowledge for the Carnage name was established. Rockford Screamfest hosted the 2nd K4tC gathering in May 2005 and approximately 100 actors from over a dozen haunts attended. After 2nd K4tC, participants were asking for a 3rd K4tC to be offered before the 2005 haunt season. Screamfest once again hosted and organized one more K4tC in July of 2005, opening their haunt for attendees to tour and act in.
So you want to be a haunt-actor?! Help, Im a Virgin-Haunt Actor! Interactive Acting, Haunt Teamwork and Leadership, Airbrushing 101, Take the Stress Out of Distressing Costumes, and Meet the Creatures, are examples workshops that have been offered during K4tCs first year.
K4tC has been hosted, organized and facilitated by various haunt owners and actors in Illinois and Wisconsin. It truly has been a collaborative effort that exemplifies the power of what can be done when various attractions work together, network and share.
