Kanser Future Retro Legacy
..Pleasant is the way they start this Album wasting no time getting to the good stuff. The first song you hear almost makes you sit up in your seat with a positive feeling. The two veteran members of Kanser brought the summertime vibe early this year making the ultimate soundtrack for spring. Using an unbelievable ability to transcend energy through music Unicus and Zach bring well delivered and educated verses that are creating a graduated sound from Kanser. Getting this CD stuck in the dash isn’t such a bad thing; you will be in a good mood every time you get out the car. Having the whole album produced by Big Jess creates a consistency and makes it full of those Kanser songs you love.

4/04 Menomonie, WI.... The Waterfront bar and grill along with all the kids in Menomonie have treated us well the last 2 times we've played there so I been looking forward to this show all week. They plugged up the food and drinks and I don't think they even charged people who we sitting next to us that weren't in the band. We had "Wide eyes" open up and they did a pretty tight set. DJ Fundo and DJ Last Word had the party dancing and in a good mood so the show was kind of a alley oop we just had to jump up and slam it down. We started off good but the sound and our performance started to get a little shaky in the middle but our bass player "Chris HoneyCutt" and our drummer "Corey Hess" carried us through with two individual grate performances. The DJ's took the party home and we wound up at a after bar a couple blocks away. Menomonie kids always show us a good time but I was kinda pooped so I went and got pizza with the homie Drew and then Unicus, his girl friend Jill and I went back to Drew's to crash out. I crashed on the floor but was woken up around 5:30am to the homie Jon Hiner sleep walking and thinking that the stool next to my feet was the toilet and he started sleep pissing 3 inches from my blankets!?!!? It quickly became and episode but in retrospect was a pretty memorable Kanser tour moment. (LOL!!!!)
4/11 Minneapolis, MN .... I helped a 19 year old rapper named Niles Miller who I've known for about a year now through his release party for his mix tape "Good Karma" I first caught wind of Niles rap's when he did a remake of my song "White jesus" called "Black Jesus" DJ Fundo thinks he did better on his version. I was happy to be a part of Niles release and it had been a minute since I did a all age show. Even though it was a nice spring day out an the show was at 5pm in the basement of the Dinkytowner over 120 kids still came through. Alicia, Fundo and I hadn't played together in over a month so we we're a little rusty but in the fun way. We laughed at each other on stage a lot and had fun with the crowd. Go get your self some "Good Karma"
4/15 Minneapolis, MN (Augsburg college) .... Josh from More Than Lights went to Augsburg for over 3 years and was always trying to get us a gig there. Last semester Josh took a break (dropped out) of school ...... and then they called us. We played a free out door show on Campus on a nice Wednesday afternoon. Good energy all around. Some of my younger homies like K-riss and his crew came to check us and this show started my spring out right. Unicus had a real good show ....... he was been full force Unicus, and I was just giving him the "we need full force Unicus every show" speech two days before. After the show I went and are ice cream, then played basket ball.
4/21 Mankato, MN .... "What up boys!" is the first thing I yelled when i saw my homies Parallax at sound check. They looked glad to see me and it was the drummers birthday. I poked my head in Brother Ali's green room to say whats up and felt good energy from everybody. Shows are double the fun when you play with your friends. A writer for the Mankato State college news paper named Drew Nelson wrote a pretty good article about Kanser & Parallax along with a interview with Brother Ali witch I read in our room before sound check witch got me in a better mood than I was already in. I was first under the impression that we we're booked just to open for Brother Ali at the college but what I realized quick was that this was a big spring jam type show and all around big event. Our friend Shea Howell (only person I know in Mankato) showed up at the show and that put my mood up to 10. I would guess there was almost 900 people there. Parallax did real good setting it off. Kanser who tonight consisted of Unicus, DJ Fundo, Alica Steel, Jellyfish Josh on Saxophone and myself hudled up behind stage before we went on. Josh got a little to excited and tried chest bumping me hella hard like it was a foot ball game when I wasn't expecting it almost knocking me down through the current .... for a second it was tense but then we all laughed it off and got into a better mood. Alicia and I set it well, then introduced Unicus. Our set went pretty well but the highlight was our ending. We brang out Josh and ran the same ending we had used on our west coast tour last month where Josh played old Hip Hop Jams on his Saxophone. Chance York from Parallax jumped on stage to jump around the crowd went nuts and we introduced Toki Wright ....... then Brother Ali.
4/25 Minneapolis, MN.... Illogic, Zero and DJ Emanuel from Ohio crashed at my crib on Friday night and our gas got shut off the same day, my roomate and I forgot to pay that shit all winter (LOL) Since the rappers were from Ohio they wanted to watch the Cleveland Cavilers playoff game as soon as they got to town. After that I brought them to a dance night on the Westbank called "Bop" I think I showed them a pretty good time. I was scared the show the next night at the Dinkytowner would be effected by the U of M's Spring jam but still about 250 people showed up. Homies from Iowa and Southdakota were on the bill. Illogic had a real good show, and the crowd tour it down during the Kanser set.
5/01 Victoria, MN ... To celebrate his 26th birthday a teacher Zach Edwards at "New Holly family Catholic school" brought us out for the 2nd year in a row to rock for his students. Last year our DJ mixer caught fire and we were unable to really give the kids the kind of show we wanted to, but this year we brought out St Paul Slim, Prof & Rahzwell, DJ Fundo and a real Kanser set. I would guess there was 160+ students there going bananas the whole time and we put on the show we should have put on last year. When I dropped the "I don't speak republican" line off my song "Meet the parents" I caught a lot of cheers but a few boo's from some young republican's but hey.... they have the right to their opinion like I got the right to mine. Wish I had had a teacher that would have brought a underground rap tour to my high school ..... thanks MR. Edwards
5/02 U of M's Justice jam, MN ... a bunch of kids from the University of Minnesota put on a week called "Actifest" pumping political awareness among other things@ the college all week, concluded with a free outdoor concert called "Justice Jam" More than lights played it last year and it was fun but it was cold out, this year the weather was fresh and it was down on the East river flatts so it almost felt like a minni festival. All of us had a grate time playing this show, good energy we went on right as the sun set.
5/02 Riverfalls, WI ... after More than lights played Justice Jam in the evening Kanser (Witch tonight was Unicus, DJ Fundo, Jellyfish Josh and myself) jetted to Riverfalls Wisconsin (about a 45 minute drive) to play a late night show with Prof & Rahzwell, St Paul Slim and Prym8. Ok turn out... I would guess 60-80 people? Prof was scared the crowd would leave after us but I knew everything would be cool. All the other acts killed it and we had a good show. Then we had to jet to get Unicus's girls car back.
5/09 Fargo, ND.... I think credit cards are a trap, the only reason I have them is to rent cars to do out of town shows. I had some mad credit card drama this week but Rahzwell & More than lights leaded me the doe to get it straight so we could rent a van to go play the KNDS radio block party. We brought our Prof & Rahzwell, Shiz and our homie Jonny (J5) with so it was a fun ride up north. KNDS took good care of us, hotel, food, liquor for the Gampo's. Good amount of people at the show, we did ok but we should have explained to the crowd who Prof, Rahz and Shiz were a little better so they knew what was going on with all of us on stage. My home girl "Lindsey Fresh" drove up to Fargo and came to the show but didn't kick it with us after words ......boo .... but actually all we did was go back to the hotel and watch cable.
5/22 Geneva, MN ... We've been looking forward to the Bella Madre 4 day out door camping show for months. They blessed us with a real good slot 6:15pm on Friday. Sound check at 5pm. Our drummer Corey didn't know we had to be there at 5pm so the time was a little tight and the band before us finished a little early so hundreds of kids came over to our stage and watched us soundcheck (LOL) I don't know if we had a grate show or the crowd showed us a grate time but either way it was a blast. All the members of More than lights blew our minds into outer space after we got off stage .... for 3 days straight.
5/29 Northfield, MN... Prof booked the show but left me in charge of everything (LOL) well not exactly but something like that. When I realized that we had a lot of time to fill I called Illouminous 3 to come and open witch was a good call.
The show was all ages and at a college venue called "the Cave" witch I had played at years back with Traditional Methods. It was cool they sold quessidillas for only $1. From start to finish all the kids at the show had real good energy. The only flaw with the show is that Prof & Slim should have gone last, kids in Northfield have been beating their new album "Recession music" and knew all the words. We (Kanser) figured we were going before them so we came with a mellow set, but it still went over good and at the end Prof jumped on staged with us and staged dived ...... that was fun.
5/30 Minneapolis, MN ...DINKYTOWNERS LAST SHOW/UNICUS' BIRTHDAY PARTY!!!! As most of you know the Dinkytowner witch has been Kanser's home along with tons of other local Hip Hop acts was forced out of their lease this month ... .10years to the month that Headspin Sundays we're shut down in Minneapolis. But 10 years later we know how to embrace change so instead of being sad we through Unicus' birthday party on May 30th 2009 and sent the Dinkytowner out with a BANG!!!!! Well over 400 people showed up to celibate with us and it might have been the funnest show we ever played there.
6/04 St Louis, MO ... Show wasn't very popping but we still had a good time. Prof and I wanted to watch game 1 of the NBA finals so we walked across the street from the venue to a bar. Before we walked in I knew right away it was a gay bar but it took Prof about 4 minutes of being inside to figure it out. It was funny watching him look around and put 2 and 2 together. I think everyone could tell we were just there to watch the game cause we spent over an hour there and no one looked at us or even ask us if we wanted a drink. It got 10 times funnier when all of the sudden the stage lit up and a queen with a microphone announced it was "Thursday drag show night!" next thing we know there's a girl ... or boy (?) on stage doing a "Little Wayne" song!!! I said to Prof "We're in St louis at a drag show, while a cross dresser covers Little Wayne, watching Kobe Bryant put 40 points on the Magic in the NBA finals ...... dude this is so 2009
6/05 Columbia, MO ...Prof and I woke up at DJ Mahf's house and watched "the Wrestler" movie on DVD ... good movie the scene were he smash's the girl in the bathroom of the bar was the shit. We drove a couple hours to Columbia and did a good size show with our old friend Steddy P. Prof did good, I was kinda hard on myself cause I thought I didn't really bring it and there were some people in the crowd who have been Kanser supports. Steddy did the best show I ever seen him do and called us on stage to preform a song we have on his album and the crowd knew the words .... that shit was tight. Steddy got a little faded after the show and was being hard on Lebron James
6/06 Sioux city, IA ... Our rented KIA is getting good MPG ... I think we got 7 hours out of this one tank? We met the promoter@Famous daves when we got into town, had dinner and went to his crib and watched "Titanic" Kate Winslet" is hot.... I dont think I thought so when I 1st saw this 10 years ago. We met our old friend Biggs at the show and watched his set. The Family also played. A small crowd came to see us and the show was going pretty good ... but towards the end a dude in the front row started to heckle Prof ... and then started yelling battle .... and then stepped on stage. Now when your trying to do your show most times this isnt something good to feed into ... but I was just in a good mood .... so I told the dude I would battle him and gave him the mic ... then he rapped .... then I gave him about 12 bars ... thats all it took .... and we ended the show with a big OOOOOOOHH from the crowd and everyone went home happy. I like Sioux city.
6/13 Minneapolis, MN ...The Recession music release party has been being planned for months. Held at the Fineline there were thousands of free tickets printed off just as a thank you to our supporters/fans (best fans in the world) I (Big Zach New MC) was to open at 10pm. So my job was to set it off right and warm the crowd up .... kinda like an appitizer. With by Cory Heis on hand drums, Alicia Steele on vocals and Niles Miller on back ups and raps I felt we did out job. Over 700 people showed up to watch Prof, Rahzwell, Slim and myself. Pretty good night
6/19 Minneapolis, MN ..Our old friend Omar Bliss booked Kanser to play his video release at the Kitty kat klub over southeast. It was a cool little party, Omar seems to bring in a well balanced adult female rasio... witch was dope. We kept the set simple and mellow, Natalie Fine did very well. Afterwards my friends Ceaser Wein, Anya, Caitlin and Jonny (J5) watched me eat a burrito and hang out in Dinkytowner
7/10 Minneapolis, MN ..We played a super fun show last night with the Unknown Prophets and Grieves@the Fineline. After sound check I got a text that Kansers long time good friend Dillon Parker (owner of Stop house) had a healthy baby girl!!!!! Big news for the family. More than lights built a good set that featured special guest Parallax, Alicia Steele and random friends dancing on stage to a Micheal Jackson medley. FUN all night long. Marion Ounekham from the Parallax family gave it her best attempt to get me drunk but I gotta get my sober on this summer. (LOL) Later my guy Max Friedman an me hung out with the Parallax fam all night on the mellow tip, eating sandwiches and talking about anything. Before I left the venue a girl outside ask how much my CD's were, I said $10 and she said she would show me one breast for a CD .... and I said you gotta show me two ....so instead of 2 for 1 she got 1 for 2 .... its all in fun
7/11 Menomonie, WI ... Alicia felt like leaving early to spend part of the day in Menomonie so she drove St Paul Slim and I and got there around 6pm. Got some snacks and found a park by the lake. We did push ups and had good conversation. Later everybody else (DJ Funo, Ill 3, DJ Last word and Allissa Paris) met us at the venue where the owner Jason took good care of us with dinner and drinks. It was 1st time we played Menomonie in summer when school was out but there was still a 100+ person party to rock for. Felt like we did good. Alicia and I stayed sober but the free drinks started to kick in for everyone else by 2am and by the time I got to the after party Fundo was dressed in a carrot costume and Freeze from Ill 3 was in a gorilla mask .... it was that kinda night (LOL)
7/17 Fargo, ND..... I picked up a rapper from from California named Raashn Amad from the airport, well I didn't really pick him up I took the light rail out out to the terminal and then we took a cab back to my crib. The Cab driver might have been the worst driver in the world and I was scarred for our lives most of the trip. We got a little sleep then jetted out to Fargo along with Alicia Steele, DJ Last word and Ernie Rhoads. The American legion wouldn't let us have water before we preformed?...? that was a 1st, they were being weird but we still did our thing. The show was all ages and there was just a small group of kids that stuck around for the raps at the end of the night but it made up for a special type vibe.... put me in a real good mood.
7/18 Minneapolis, MN .....Ernie Rhoads has been my friend for almost 8 years and he is moving to California in a few weeks and this was his last show/going away party at the Nomad. Nice crowd showed up to have a good time and we had had a fun night. Ernie, Last word, OSP, Shala, the Me and you crew, Alicia & I and Raashan Amad. We flew in Raashan to do a rap set in Fargo and Minneapolis both witch he did a good job but neither compared to his real fun DJ set he spontaneously did for the last hour of the night. Everybody was dancing. Good luck Ernie.
7/22-25 10,000 lakes festival Detroit lakes, MN ... This will be the longest show story ever to go along with the longest weekend I ever had. We only discovered festivals in 2006 but ever since we've been crazy about doing them and for what we've been told 10K is the biggest one in Minnesota. I only got booked about a month back when my old homie Yoni set me up to play at the Lake Sally side stage during the Hip Hop showcase on Friday night. The Money wasnt big but Yoni plugged me with enough free tickets/parking pass' to get the whole "More than lights" gang in along with members Corey Heis and Cris Honeycutt who were already playing with local singer Dalia. In trade for her ticket Natalie Fine provided me with a tent and a ride on Wednesday. The drive was quick and we got up there before the sun set with plenty of time to set up tents. We camped next to some fest kids who are friends of Coreys/MTL. Soon after Cris, Corey, Matt and his girl friend Megan showed up. We had a pretty mellow Weds night, I wound up watching a real cool DJ set at the field stage "Pretty lights" and got a ok amount of sleep. As soon as I woke up at 9:39am I was ready to go balls deeps. (X for breakfast, dose for lunch, skipped dinner and Molly for desert) The day seemed to last forever, we went swimming in Lake Sally before making our way to the Blue OX side stage where we watched Dalia, Corey, Cris and our homie Sean Anonymous preform. The vibe was super mellow, acoustic set with a picnic of 70+ people sitting watching the music. I was chilling out with Dalia's boyfriend working on my tan game when Dalia started singing and something about her 1st song/sound of her voice/ friends around me/ trip I was on triggered some emotional reaction and I almost started crying. Not that that would be that unhealthy but I don't know Dalia's boyfriend well enough to weird him out. Right on time my home girl Anya (who was working fest taxi) pulled up so I got up to talk to her and get myself together. Dalia's voice and words along with the moment I was in was just overwhelming beautiful... almost I held it together. Sean Anonymous has either become a real good rapper ... or I was tripping to hard. (LOL) Dalia called me up to preform a couple songs with her witch I probably didn't do well as but it was still pretty fun hearing them do Kanser's Sunshine song. Everyone started to look like crazy characters to me at this point so I walked back to our camp site and started to realize how big this place is. I swear its about a 15th of the size of south MPLS. Back at the camp site we started a fire just waiting it out for Atmosphere to play at 11pm. But before we went to them Ant came to us, he hired Anya to drive him around the campsite and told her to find me. So they showed up at our camp site, Ant made fun of me for being a hippy and took the biggest pull of vodka I have ever seen anyone take in my life. I said "Oh shit!" then he looked at me and said "I'm a different animal on the road player." Before they played we went to watch the sun set and saw a lighting storm coming in the distance, it hit a few songs into Atmospheres set.... and I mean HIT! Cris, Natalie and I fled up to the Saloon bar stage and actually stayed dry. It was crazy watching thousands of kids who were watching Atmosphere head for the hills all at the same time as the storm came quick. With the worst timing in the world Unicus and his girl friend/Josh and his roomate showed up. In the middle of the storm they told the lady at the gate they were on Atmospheres guest list and she informed them that that only meant they could watch tonight's show, no parking no camping. This all happened while Ant's on stage unable to help and a storm is hitting. Threw a lot of wet drama and a $55 parking pass things got worked out. Somewhere around 3am I wound up back at our camp site and met a little magical fest girl named Julia who was camped next to us. Now in real life I think this was probably a young girl who just had 2 glow sticks and walked Cris, Scotty and I down to the "John Wayne and the pain" after party tent. But in the fair tail world I was in at this point she was a magical person who led us to the mecca of fun. There I found my DJ "DJ Fundo" rocking a crazy fest party playing every type of music possible screaming "We're going everywhere tonight baby!" I took my normal spot next to him behind the turn tables to help him host and play my roll but after about 45 minutes of him not speaking to me or looking at me I figured we must be in a argument, not aware that by now I had vailed my face with a blanket so he had no idea who I was in till I picked up the mic and started hosting witch triggered a super surprised reaction from him "All this time I thought you were just some weirdo standing to close to me." he said. Fundo and me rocked that party till 7am!!!!!! Crazy, Fundo went everywhere with it Snoop dog to Peter gabrial to Tricky to Bob marly. People were going nuts all night. Scotty and Julia/glow sticks stayed dancing in the front of the DJ table all night and I thought I'm not done in till they are. On the walk back to our site I found 7 magic pills on the ground and Julia said "ground score" I ask what that meant and she said "When you find something on the group worth keeping." By the time we got back to our site the evil police people had come and arrested our homie Marcus who was camped next to us. Marcus has been a good supporter and friend to MTL over the passed summer and wasn't doing anything but playing his part in the festival. The cops/security were there for hours and it was super bogus and killed my high bad. (Peace to Marcus) I stayed in 100% normal world all day Friday and tried to get some sleep before my show, it was tough at night cause our tent and my sleeping bag got wet. Josh had a tough time waking me up for our show but we made it for check it. Roster McCabe were on when we got to the Lake Sally Tent and the 1st thing we heard them say was "Wheres More than lights? Is Zach here?" witch put a smile on my face. The side stages in the camp grounds are fun and you can stubble on some good music, I watched Sean Anonymous, Negitive one, Mayda and Yoni all preform before me. Yoni ended with a real good song witch would have been hard to follow but DJ Fundo started DJing a little before we went on to get everybody up dancing. Our set was super fun and I would guess 200 people came to the tent and rocked with us while we were on. Josh sang back ups for me and we ended with a Kanser song bringing Unicus up. My little brothers Prof & Rahzwell went on after us and crushed it too. After we were done Mike Camble and other members of the Stop House team over heard a few people making fun of me. I don't take myself that serious not to be made fun of here and there but Mike said they were hating and taking my lyrics out of context. So the Gampo's (Prof, Rahz, Fundo ect) followed them back to there camp site, waited for them to leave and pissed all over their chairs, tents, and even in there coolers all over their food then waited for them to get back and watch them sit down and eat..... they had my back hard, real homie shit. I watched a group called "Boombox" at the barn stage, hung out with Unicus and his girl, went back to the John Wayne and the pain tent, then tired to get some sleep.
7/25 Tenstrike, MN ..... We woke up at the 10,000 lakes festival@ 9am but didn't get it all together to leave in till around 1pm. For the 1st time in my "career" (if thats what you call it) I was booked to play a wedding. We didn't know what to think so the band planned on playing mostly covers and i was only to rap on like 5 songs..... what we didn't plan on was this being the coolest couple ever "Jake and Arianne" and this being the coolest out door camping wedding ever!!! Well I didn't plan on it, the band had met the couple at Folk fest so they knew it was gonna be cool. They fed a grate, let us take showers to get 10K off us. We did 2 sets that were both fun, I saw a girl "Katie" I went to high school with and hadn't seen in years, her cuzin Tim. There was ever a few kids up front who knew the words to Kanser songs.
7/31 Minneapolis, MN... Omaur Bliss booked me for his CD release party@ 7th street. Crowd was a little stiff but I sold a good amount of stuff when I got off stage to make me think they liked it. Alicia did real good and members of the legendary "Abstract pack" were in the front row so it was fun rapping for them.
8/1 Dandyland day's, SD.. I hate missing shows more than anything, especially out of town shows, and especially festivals. So it really sucked that I was double booked and couldn't make this show but Unicus, Natalie and the fellas held it down with out me. They said they drove threw hours of fields in till they came to a miniature "Harmony park" in the middle of South dakota. Said it was fun and they got to play music for about 200 fest kids.
8/1 Minneapolis, MN...... Although I was bummed I didn't get to go South dakota with with rest of "More than lights" we had kind of a sweet Minneapolis underground Hip Hop jam go down@the Uptown bar. Yakub, Def sound, Wide eyes, Alicia and me and Toki Wright. Gabe Garcia did a grate job filling in on the wheels for us cause Fundo & Last word were at a wedding. Lot of familiar faces in the crowd witch was fun to rock for, they even ask us to do an encore but we were to short on time. Toki Wright followed us with a smashing set and ended the way we use to do with a real fly free style session and when they shut the sound off we just took it out side to the side walk where Toki Wright and IBE from "Usual suspects" exploded with the freestyles. You know I out grew freestyle cyphers 10 years ago (LOL) but this night was pretty cool. Side note it was the best sound I've ever had@ the Uptown
8/14 Minneapolis, MN..... I feel like I'm booked at the Nomad like 10 times this summer but every crowd is different. This night its "David Mars" CD release show. David is down with my guy Ecid and is also the little brother of this girl I know from back in the day so I was happy to be booked. Played a set with Alicia Steele and DJ Gabe Barcia.
8/15 Harriot island, MN (boat show) Healing records booked MTL to set it off @their 1st annual boat show. Right away I ran into Julia, Marty and other homies we camped with@10K this year. The boat show was real relaxing. It rained pretty hard but we were safe inside the boat. The boat trip went from 7-11pm New Rebalution headlined and brought us back to dock. After the show I went to Medium Zachs wedding reception (congrats!!!) and then went to Kool hand Lukes underground party@3rd lair witch was the best party of the summer.
8/22 Cedar raipds, IA...... 1st time Kanser's been back to Cedar rapids since the flood crushed their city last year. It was good to be back. We played a small spot legal capacity 49 but you can't smoke in the bars anymore in Iowa so it was comfortable and the small crowd was real receptive. It was the 1st time Gabe Garcia DJ'd for Kanser and he did a almost prefect job and Unicus and I were in sink. Case the Joint, Imperfect, Colorless and other Iowa MC's were out to kick it with us. Of all the shows I'd done with Colorless I hadnt realized how funny dude is, he had me laughing all night. We captured a tree frog, argued about NFL football and bought pizza's from the grocery store. Our homegirl Haily Day who drove down with us along with Imperfect's girlfriend stayed up late with the rappers and watched "Harold and Kumar go to White castle" everybody else got high to watch it but I stayed sober.... it was still funny. When we woke up we went to an all you can eat breakfast joint in the morning witch was the worst thing that happened to me all week.
8/28 Minneapolis, MN...... How many times are you gonna play the Nomad this summer? Erik Dorf/dj Elusive(now the manager of the Nomad) ask me when Josh, Gabe and I got to sound check. "Dude I don't know? I gotta make that rent." I said. Just ended up that I play@the Nomad 3 times in a row, convienent because I live like a block away. Tonights show is the release party for "and/or magazine" issue 3 witch is put out locally by my little homegirl Jeni Dalia. Cool amount of people were in and out all night but I think I got the prime slot time we went on around 11-something when the most people were there. Highlight of the night though was when this singer Ashley Gold preformed a re-make of T.I.'s 'Whatever you like" that was fun.
8/29 Minneapolis, MN......Back to back nights@the Nomad, tonight its the Stop house Drunk show where Prof, Rahzwell & DJ Fundo get as drunk as they can before and during their preformance. They just want me to do like 10 minutes about an hour before they go on. I think Prof & Rahz fans are starting to dig me cause i sold hella CD's before I even got on stage. I only did 2 songs and a freestyle with Josh behind me but I kinda feel like we killed it. Fun night ... dumb night ... but dumb in the fun way
9/04 Minneapolis, MN.... Night started out "good" Frank the bouncer of the Nomad caught me making out with a random girl in the downstairs of bar before I even went on. Odd thing was the girl didn't even stay for my performance? LOL
9/18 Minneapolis, MN..... Long story how I ended up getting this night @the Triplerock but I ended up using it to plug a couple out of town acts that were in the area and try to help some under 21 year old rappers who have had trouble getting gigs since the Dinkytowner closed. My boy Trey said he would DJ for free and Carnage did me a favor by co-headlining the night with Kanser. My boy Elliot (feedback) came up with the idea that we should have a theme and everyone should wear sunglasses to get it, at 1st I was like na but then was like fuck it and went with it. The night was tough Heiruspecs, Toki Wright, Trama, Unknown Prophets, Wide eyes ect..... all had other shows going on in town the same night. Even with those shows the performers showed up with real good attitudes and about 150 kids showed up with even better attitudes. 150 can pack a small venue but the Triple rock needs about 250 to look good, so in one sense the show kind of flopped?? .... but in another sense the fun level was high!!! The kids in the crowd had super energy!!!!!! Carnage took the sunglasses theme and wore old school NWA glasses and did a Easy-E cover beatbox set. I've worked with Carnage for over 10 years and it was the best set I ever saw him do. (Dillon Parker of Stop house and ANT of Atmosphere told me the same thing) I shouldnt put bizz-ness on this post but $ was slightly low ..... and nobody complained, I would like to thank all the artist for having such good attitudes and making a good night out of what could have been bad.
9/30 Duluth, MN.... kicking it at UMD college with our friends Parallax, Slim, and Omaur Bliss was fun from the beginning. It was a free show for students and a cool little crowd came to check us out. I was excited to play Duluth all week. Right before we went on a university cop snatched up DJ Gabe for having *&^%$ in his backpack and I thought it was curtains but the cop let Gabe get on stage and just hit him with a ticket afterwords. Show was a little shaky the sound in the room was weird couldnt tell if it was the acoustics or the levels or what but when I looked in to the kids eyes in the crowd it felt like they wanted to have fun so bad but we're being held back a little?.... I dont know maybe I'm tripping, show was ok. Sold some stuff and bounced to a Duluth bar to watch Heatbox play afterwards witch was real fun. Then went back to our homegirl Laura's house to sleep and steal peanut butter and jelly sandwiches after she went to sleep.
10/1 Riverfalls, WI.... Drove back from Duluth and went to sleep, woke up around 6pm and caught a text from Shiz saying our DJ/ride for the night had falling threw. My non computer ass went to work trying to burn a disk of beats and our homie Philly saved the day with a ride. Our young homies the Tribe were opened the show up then Prym8 from Riverfalls did the best set I've ever seen him do. We showed up with no DJ so I just got on stage handed Prym8's DJ DJ Devious a disk ask if he could put them on serato and try to wing it. On the mic and in front of the crowd I told Devious I was gonna give him hand signals to do this or that and he pulled it off and it was super fun. Show was fun and Shiz helped me out a lot by doing a couple songs. I cut the set short so Sudo slang (the out of town headliner) could get on quick. Show gave us that good feeling.
10/2 Minneapolis, MN.. I really think this kid IBE has something special. He's one of the bet young rappers on the seen and it was a cool statement that he booked me to play his CD release party@ the Uptown bar. Plus the Uptown is closing in a month so its the last time I'll play there. IBE booked Alicia and me separately but then ask if we could do part of our sets together. I stayed late to get paid and chopped it up with my friend Michelle who's a long time bartender@the Uptown. I walked all the way home in the light rain but the feeling I got from the show made it not so bad.
10/17 West St Paul, MN..10 years ago we recorded a record@the studio of Bob Cain. A old rock cat who was open to recording HipHop. about 5 months ago we met his son Mike Cain at a show in Mankato. He told us him and his dad have a duel birthday party every year in October and ask how much it would cost for Kanser to play. We gave him the contact to the dude who does our booking and they worked it out. I hung out at DJ Gabes house before the show eating mash-potatoes and watching "My cuzin Vinni". I spoke to Unicus on the phone about the many "House parties" we've been booked to play over the years and how they don't work out most of the time but that we had a ok feeling about this one. We got there around 9:30 and the second we stepped in Gabe said he thought it would be tight. It was early so there wasnt a lot of people there but it had the feel like there was about to be. Gabe, our friend Lee and I watched the Yankees/Angles game and waited for Unicus and Alicia to show up. Plenty of people filed in as we waited and by the time we went on the party was cracking. The show was off the hook and the crowd was putting in more work than us rapping along with most of the songs. It was a grate time and I'm glad we did it. I stayed sober all night but I was so thirsty I drank a whole bottle of non-alcoholic sham pain. I crashed out at Gabe house and in the morning we watched the Vikings barley win.
Alicia Steele vs Big Zach in dots at soundcheck of the Menomonie show 10/19 Menomonie, WI....A few months ago the Waterfront bar & grill hit me up asking if I would put together a Hip Hop night for "Advisement Day Eve" they said it was a Menomonie holiday where Stout college didnt have school on Tuesday so Monday night would be popping @the bar. I booked Carnage, DJ Trey, DJ Gabe Garcia, myself & Alicia Steele. When we got to the bar we noticed there where no posters or flyers for the night and on the calender the night was listed as just Hip Hop. We were told not to worry that "Advisement Day Eve" would pull people in. We waited.....as we waited I hung out with cool cat who works at the Waterfront, he told me stories about getting off drugs and his crazy babies moms and gave me one of the nicest compliments about my music I've ever heard. He said "Please keep making your music cause its important to dudes like him." I thought that was a real cool thing to say. It hit Midnight and the place was still pretty empty so Carnage and I being in the game long enough made a quick plan of attack to put on as good a show we could to who ever was there. Carnage went to set up his beatbox loop peddle and I swear by the time he was ready to go the place was half full with heads ready to see Carnage?!!? They just came right on time I guess. Carnage set it off better than he should have (LOL) meaning he got the crowd so excited all I could think was "This is gonna be hard to follow." A nice amount of Menomonie heads came out to watch Alicia, Gabe and I do our thing, they knew the words to the songs and were real supportive. I felt like we had a ok start to the set, a small lul in the middle but kinda ended strong. Over all we put on a good show but it was just hard to follow Carnage, probably should have switched the order. I've made a few Menomonie friends now and it was good to see Brice, Julie and Jason.
10/25 Fargo, ND.......My little bro Kip G's throwing a show in Fargo where he has P.O.S., Eyedea & Abilities as the co-headliners and he wants me to come up and do a set with him to open the show. DJ Gabe Garcia was gonna be up north already and could bring me back so I called P.O.S on Friday to see if I could ride with him, he said yeah but said they were leaving on Sunday morning I thought about it for a hour then said fuck it and went and bought a bus ticket for Saturday at like 7am cause I wanted to go kick it in Fargo with Kip for a day before the show (and I didnt wana miss the Vikings game on Sunday) Kip and I were having a real good time in till the Vikings lost on Sunday. Gabe came in town and met us for the game, we put together a cool set, Gabe learned the material and then we went and did a radio interview with the other acts. The all age show was packed, we set it off and then Eyedea made me laugh by telling jokes all threw his set. A high school girl named Lexi hung out with me in the back by the product table during most of the show, she made me laugh more than Eyedea. POS killed it and I sold a cool amount of stuff. Kip and I went to Erberts & Gerberts between shows and it was fun to be around Kip. Not only did he have 2 good shows in one day but he threw 2 good shows in one day. Kip was kinda on top of the world. Later that night during the 21+ show POS gave a speech about Kip about how he built the Northdakota Hip Hop scene and if it wasn't for him we all wouldn't be able to come threw that state and play. This is gonna bug me for weeks but while I was on stage during the 21+ show a girl from the all age show returned to the venue because I sold her a "White jesus CD" that was broking, not knowing what to do and unable to let her in the girl at the door gave her $10 back and she left. I wish I would have been able to just give the girl a new CD. If anyone reads this that knows her tell her to email me and I'll mail her a new disk.
10/26 Northfeild, MN........Gabe had to drive all day cause I don't know how to drive a stick. We picked up Alicia in Brooklyn park and then made our way to Northfeild to play a all age show at a youth cafe called the Key. I've been playing at the Key for years for young kids, its small crowds but kids in Northfeild are cool and have been very supportive of Kanser and the TC Hip Hop scene over the years. The Tribe opened and then Alicia set off the show with some cool singing. It was a small crowd but I think they had fun. I think I might have tried to tell to many dumb jokes in between songs but besides that I think the kids had a good time. The show got interrupted cause a bee flew in the cafe and landed on Alicia's arm witch almost gave her a heart attack. While I froze up not knowing what to do luckily a 16 year from Northfeild was brave enough to pick up the bee and get it off stage..... without anyone getting stung.
10/30 Sioux city, IA........1st thing Shiz, Gabe and I did when we got to Sioux city was hit this righteous cheap taco spot about 3 blocks from the venue. Our Sioux city homies Biggs and Eboli met us at the taco spot before we went down to Reds bar. Like always the Sioux city crowd was a diverse cast of characters who wanted to have a good time. Show was good and the crowd made me do "Sub Shop" at the end. We left right after the show to get home and about 30 minutes out of town pulled over for gas where we found on on-ramp back to the freeway blocked off with signs. In stead of taking the detour Shiz and Gabe got out the car and moved the signs and we slid threw the road blocks and got back on 29S. We were laughing pretty hard about it for about 3 minutes before Gabe realized he dropped his phone when we moved the sign and we did a U-turn on the freeway to go back. When we got back we found a small town squad car moving the sign detour sign back and when Shiz called the Gabes phone the cop picked it up and turned it off..... guess thats what we get for breaking the rules.
11/06 LaCrosse, WI........You would think in our 14 and a half year "Career" (if thats what you wana call it LOL) that Kanser would have played LaCrosse Wisconsin before? But we in till this Friday we hadn't. DJ Gabe, Unicus and I got to the all age vegetarian cafe around 7:30 for sound check and I was ready to rap at like 7:38. There was a long list of groups playing before us and I was hyper to rap from the second we got there. When we went on at 11:30pm the crowd was small I counted 38 people but we made the best of it and I think we showed the kids a good time. Met some young rappers from LaCrosse and that was cool. Then we bar hopped the LaCrosse night scene, lots of cowboys and college kids...... singing along with Molly Cyrus songs
11/07 Beloit, WI.............We woke up in LaCrosse Wisconsin on a abnormal warm November day and found a little sight seeing to do. We got to Beloit early so we kicked it on the college campus and watched kids play frizby and enjoyed the weather. 4 years in a row we've played@Beloit college and it has always been mad fun. Kids pack into the basement and are ready to have a good time. We were doing a almost perfect set in till about 40 minutes into it we realized DJ Gabe didnt have any more beats for any of our songs?!!? We have only been playing with Gabe since July and we had never done more than a 40 minute set with him. At this point the kids in Beloit were just getting warmed up, we did a little freestyling and made up a couple songs to stumble threw the end and it worked out ok, the kids were hype and I wish we would have had like 3 more good ones to give um. After the show Gabe, Unicus and I found our selves in what I think was a dorm room basement were a miniture rave style party was going down. Unicus and I were by far the oldest cats there so we felt a little akward ... so .... we just started dancing .... for about a half hour it was actually real fun and kids gave us lots of compliments about the show. Then we found our selves at a serority party where they were bumping pop music like Maria Carry, Beyonce and such. We felt a little akward ..... so we just started dancing again (LOL) well Unicus and Gabe did more then me after about 20 minutes I dipped back to our place to crash and watched Aliens vs Predator. Peace to Kyle, the C-Hause and all the Beliot kids who once again showed us a good time.
11/08 St Cloud, MN........I wake up on Tuesday morning after celebrating my 32nd birthday till 2:30am, after I peace together the night before I come to the conclusion that I didn't do anything that dumb or regrettable? Next line of business is a show I am booked to play at St Cloud State later that day. I realize I dont have a ride and I'm not 100% confident that I can pull of an hour set by self in this hung over state. I call Freeze from a Ill 3 A:because he's a tight as rapper B:cause he has a car C:because we share the same DJ and DJ Gabe has all is music. I also call Kip G from Fargo and ask him to come help me do a set. Even though the 4 of us have never played altogether I was thinking it would be spontaneous and fun. When we get to St Cloud the homie Joel who booked us brings us to the venue, he said the turn out wasnt very good but there would be a small group of kids coming to see us when we took the stage, and there was...... maybe about 30-40. To be hard on us I feel we put on a terrible performance, but it wasn't all our fault, they were having sound problems where only the beat was coming threw the monitors and it was so loud Gabe could not hear anything. It was the worst when Freeze was rapping it was really as if his mic was off, but out in the audience we think he was clear. About 35 minutes into the set I told Gabe to stop the music and I apologized for putting on a bad show then gave away CD's to everyone there. The small crowd who was being very supportive then started to make the night magical by asking us to keep rapping so Freeze & Kip started spitting hot verse's with out beats and went back and forth for about 10 minutes and the crowd seemed to love it then we just hung out with the audience for the rest of the night and what started as a bad show became some what of a good night. I will get back to St Cloud soon to make up for this show I promise.
11/14 Chicago, IL...... For a birthday present Heiruspecs ask me to come preform with them in the Chi. Twinkie Jiggles, DVRG and myself got there on Friday night and chilled out at Twinkies fathers 45th floor downtown apartment. The view was off the chain and it felt like we were at a resort. The show was at Abbeys pub and a good crowd showed up to see Heiruspecs. A girl named Megan who I had met at Wisconsin shows came to the gig with her 2 roommates, I hung out with them after the show and we hopped to another bar had a couple of drinks then Megan ask if I had ever seen the "Bean" in downtown Chicago. I said no but I knew what it was cause a homegirl of mine back home has it as her desktop picture. To get to the Bean we hopped the blue line train into downtown Chicago at 3:30am witch was a whole experience in its self. I had never rode a Chicago Subway and it was fun. On the ride I kept making jokes that Megan was the leader and her only mission was to get me to the "Bean" and to keep me out of jail. When we got off the train we took a wrong turn and found ourselves lost in downtown Chicago, eventually a cop car rolled up on us so we ask for directions. The cop told us to hop in the back saying he would give us a ride. After a little small talk the cop made fun of me for being a "White rapper" as he put it. The cop dropped us at Millennium park, he told us it was closed but we had a good chance of sneaking around with out security catching us but 30 or so feet away from the Bean we were stopped and ask to leave by security. Since being in the back seat of a squad car is usually one step away from jail Megan got me as close to the Bean as to jail. It was a good night attached to a grate birthday week.
11/21 "More than lights CD release party Minneapolis MN"...........................I'll keep this short because the planning of this show was long and a good amount of work so the details would take to long to explain but on behalf of the entire More than lights band I would like to thank the almost one thousand people who came threw the door and let us preform for them. We also had the best openers in the world Dalia, Wide eyes, City on the Make, DJ Gabe Garcia and our host Chilli. Also all the painters who did live painting, Task and his break dance crew that came threw last minute, Parallax, Scotty(Reef) and the circus performers that played durring our set. Kanser 2009 Show Stories
1/09 Sioux falls, South Dakota ... Our long time friend Ken (Truth of Truth & Adapt) set off their new Monthly seires at Nuttys North. Natalie Fine is in Mexico getting a tan, so Alica Steel who has been backing Big Zach solo shows came in her place. The night started slow but this homie Darron whos origanally from Minneapolis didnt let us down by bringing a extra 20 or so people. Real fun show, then DJ Fundo had um dancing for a extra half an hour after our set, but when Fundo cut the music the crowd that was left in the bar turned on us ... Made us feel like if we didn't do something on stage and quick we we'rent gonna make it back to Minneapolis. So we ripped another 3 songs at like 1 something in the morning and sent the crowd home not hungry. After the show Alica ask me to do push ups with her and she matched me at 120!?!? Thats not that many but I don't think I have another female friend that can do more than 15 ... and I have a lot of female friends
1/29 Breckengride CO.... The promoter had made a deal with us to split the rental van & gas with DRS, the other rap group on the bill. We we're planning to meet with the DRS kids at 2pm Wednesday afternoon. I rented a minivan picked up Fundo and his gear then our friend Caitlin Laflash (same girl who through the after party to my birthday concert). She was tagging along with us to visit her family in Breckengride. At 1:40 we were driving down 35S right on time when we realized there was a extra seat open in the van ... Fundo said "Call Alica Steel" Alica has been preforming with us the last couple months but I didn't bring this trip up to her because I didn't think there was room. I called her and ask if she wanted to play a show in Colorado with us, she ask "When?" I said "In 20 minutes" .... next thing you know she was in the van! Witch was cool not just for the sake of the set but to balance out the estrogen in the car so Caitlin wouldn't be alone with 5 boys for ............17 hours it took us to get there. Alica, Fundo, Caitlin and I woke up at Caitlins ant and uncles house who have a crazy beautiful view of the mountains. We woke up with a misson .... cram as much fun in one day as possible cause we gotta leave tomorrow. We picked up the DRS kids, ate good pizza, rode a gondola up a mountain, looked at ice sculptures, preformed live at a radio station, then rocked a show. Show was fun, don't know if there was anyone from Colorado there? The place was filled with kids from Chicago & Minneapolis who were on ski vacations. Alica did real good, got us over the hump. Then Fundo did a Juke ghetto house set for the Chicago kids. I was to tired to after party so the next thing I know its the morning ....17 hours straight back home
2/07 Bozeman MT... This is the 2nd week in a row I make 14+ hour drive to do one show and come home but its all good its warmer out in the mountains then it is back home. Matiu & Corey left early so they could go snowboarding out by Bozeman. The rest of us Unicus, Josh, Natalie, Chris and myself squeezed into a Minni-van with all the equipment. We wanted to bring my room mate Shiz with but there wasn't room. 14 hours later... Bozeman. We played the after party for the Cold Smoke Snow board awards. Everybody out here is super nice to us and they hooked us up with some killer pizza at a spot called Mikenzies. Did 2 sets at the show witch was at the Zebra Cocktail lounge one of Kansers most favorite places to play. Show was packed, packed the van, ate Pita pit, hotel, drive home.
2/14 Mankato MN.... Unicus booked this gig through Parallax but then had to back out cause it was Valentines day along with our 1st DJ Fundo 2nd DJ Lastword .... and even 3rd DJ Elusive. I would have been stuck doing the show by myself but Alicia Steele the girl who has been singing with me and doing my back ups was a soldier about it. Lastword did come through and make us a 8 song CD set last minute. To save money Chance (front man of Parallax) car pooled Alicia and me down to Mankato. Quick drive. We kicked at the Parallax crib and got to hear all Eric (guitar players) new sex stories for Vday. The show was at a bar called Choppers, it was free and got packed quick. Parallax played 2 sets and we played in the middle. I explained to the crowd that we didn't have a DJ but they we're good to go. Alicia did real good and a pocket of the crowd that knew all the words to the songs made everyone else get excited. When our 8 song CD ended the crowd wouldn't let us off stage with out and encore but we were stuck without a DJ? Alicia was like what are we gonna do? I was like I dont know? So the crowd and I did the "White jesus" song without a beat .... and we killed it ...together the crowd and me doing the words. Parallax took me out for a night in Mankato and we ate home made egg rolls. Peace to Drew Nelson for the fresh write up in the Mankato school paper.
2/20 Minneapolis MN... Kanser released a mix CD of loose music we had and to celibate it .. or maybe just to have a show we got down at the Nomad with a good eclectic musical line up. Dalia bringing the acoustic folk vibes, OSP bring the Northside Hip Hop, DJ Fundo bringing the party and More than Lights wrapping it up. My homegirl from from high school Iris Hall brought her birthday party through so I had a grip of old school female friends in the place and then some of them after partied with us and met out newer friends and we had a good night. DJ Trey ..... was artificially feeling love (LOL) and Jeni Dalia brought over beer that tasted like beef jerky
2/21 Hudson WI .... More than lights played at a brand new bar called "City Limits" besides it being real smoking we had a good time. Crowd wasn't huge, maybe little less then 100 but they had energy for days!!!! or should I say all night. Cris Honeycutt, Corey Hess & Josh Jellyfish(our bass player, drums, keys) killed it. Mattu our guitarist always kills it so I don't have to give him props. I was a party pooper and just went to sleep at the hotel but we got with Carnage and our friends Rashad and Sara for all you can eat brakefast.
3/06 Northfield, MN.... I won a MC battle last night at the Dinkytowner, not a bracket battle or any real beef. "Shelltoe" the newest hottest battle rapper in Minnesota had excepted my open challenge that has road for over 2 years now. This is the only way I like to battle anymore two local MC's that everyone knows that can bang a lot of comedy on each other and really entertain the local crowd. It was a good challenge for me and I stayed undefeated at the Dinkytowner. After the battle DJ Fundo, Alicia Steele, DJ Lastword, Josh, myself and 3 other friends went to the 3:15am showing of "Watchmen" at the imax. It was real good, I had just read the book so it was all fresh in my head. They left a lot out so I hope someone who hadn't read the book could understand it. Josh and I we're up in till well after 6am but had to pop back up before noon to get on the road with the band. The More than lights band drove down about an hour south on 35 to play this small all age youth center that Kanser's been playing at for years. It filled in like it always does and we had a party!! After the show I went to get the van out the parking lot and got detained by 2 police for a hot minute claiming they thought I was drunk ...... I was 100% and had just played a show at the teen youth center. Then I got the van stuck in the mud but Unicus and Tim (kid who through the show) pushed the van out. We went to TIm's moms house to spend the night and these two girls who were friends of Tim came over (Madelin & Marie) came over and baked us cookies and we watched "Night rider" season 2 on DVD ...... its was kinda the shit
3/07 Lincoln, NE .... It is 11:10am on Sunday morning as I'm typing the tour log for yesterday and Unicus just text me from his hotel room and ask if he could type the tour logs for the last 2 days ... we are going back and forth texting .... I told him I got it up right now.... nope he said he'll do it next time (LOL). Ok back to Saturday, when we woke up Tim's mom who must be the nicest women in the world wakes us up and ask if we want breakfast then cooks all 7 band members and Time food. That was a dope way to start our day. About 7 hours later we check into our hotels, nice hotels but we can't fit the van in parking ramp ... and they don't have free breakfast .... What the fuck!?! This dude Nick who through the show took care of us, good show, lots of old Nebraska friends came out (what up Pyzon!) Chris Honeycut (our bass player) turned 24 today. All the girl bartenders where mad hot.
3/14 Vermillion, SD ..... Today was 1st day of our little tour out to the westcoast and back. I'm up early on the bus to rental spot. To be safe I call my credit card company even though I know I got the right funds available to rent the car ...... so I think .... long story short I bought car insurance the day before and the girl who rung me up overcharged me by $144. I just off the bus and spend about 35 minutes making phone calls to try and work it out. Luckily the rep from Gieco car insurance was mad cool and called my credit card company on 3 way. Seconds after it gets straightend out in the nick of time my phone battery dies. I step in the car rental spot and the dude at the front desk lets me know I have to go rent from a east St Paul suburb office to get the "support broke rappers hook up" ...... Oh man I have to get to a east St Paul suburb and I'm in South MPLS on the bus with no phone?!?! I bus down to Franklin and Nicollet where my friend Kyleleen Cullen works, she saves the day and lets me use her phone and borrow her car I pick up Fundo and we go get everything handled. We're giving our friend Anya Svanoe a ride to Souix falls so she can go home for spring brake. She makes the ride fun little estrogen in the car once we drop her off its 3 smelly dudes in car for 2 weeks. We showed up at the bar Maya Janes in Vermillion South dakota and they treated us right, free food, free drinks and even porno mags in the green room ...... Carmen Electra is still killing it after all these years (LOL) I had to steal Josh "Jelly fish" Homgren from the More than lights band to do my back up vocals, sing and play saxophone in the set, we barley practiced but he killed it. He kinda carried us through the night till Fundo blew up the spot with some "Twin cities style" DJing. Some players from the University of South Dakota football team showed up and made the night way funnier by dancing and having the best energy in the crowd when we played. Our homie DJ Lastword came down from Sioux Falls where he was doing a gig and crashed at the hotel. I stayed up and watched the life story of Jenny McCarthy on cable
3/15 Lincoln, NE.... "Fundo dude wake up!" that's how are day started in the hotel room when I noticed Fundo had passed out on the hotel floor and spilled a can of beer all over his computer in his sleep. ... this quickly became a drastic situation since all our beats and music are run off of Fundo's Serato program on his laptop and now his computer wasn't turning on. DJ Last word helped try to calm the situation down before he left for home. We drove 2+ hours to the Omaha Nebraska "Best Buy" to see if the Greek squad could help us out. Jump back 4 months to birthday concert in Minneapolis in November a kid named Joshua Murry who was just being cool gave me a birthday card with a $50 Best Buy gift card in it. I put it with my ID where it hasn't moved since but it saved the day on the computer repair today. After that disaster was avoided we drove to our long time Omaha homegirl Heather's house where we barb-e-qd and chilled before the show. The show was a small party but it was mad fun. The opener was a comedian/rapper named Richard Reese who put us all in a good mood. We had a good show but I almost felt like the small crowd deserved more from us, they kept yelling out do "Look love" a old song we didn't have the beat for.
3/17 Flaggstaf, AZ ..... Its only our 3rd show and we're getting on each others nerves pretty bad. Woke up 9am sleeping outside on grass in Colorado. We pulled over to a rest stop sometime after 5am and just crashed on the grass. Winter is ending. Long drive, never been to the desert before its beautiful out here looks like North Dakota and Montana squished together. Long drive ......long. Got the to the venue and the promoter had on the same Heiruspecs shirt I was wearing his name's Troy and he's made cool. The Venue is a strip club? That's a 1st for Kanser. Took us by the 5th song to win over the crowd but we finally got them. Other groups were super cool. By the end of the night we're getting along grate.
3/18 Sivlercity, NM ... I don't have a show to write about today cause for only the 2nd time in Kanser's career we arived at a show in another city and didn't get to play. We set up our equipment and Fundo got to spin for a little bit but because of some miscomunication there wasn't enough mics for us or the other groups. But we didn't let it phase us with 2 days off we had a good time. New Mexico might be the most beautiful place I've ever seen. We took a walk out into the desert and climbed hills. I praired on the top of small mountain. It felt like that scene from the movie "the Doors" just without the Peode.
3/20 Tempe, AZ .... Our friend Janeesa from St Paul was in Arizona visiting her ant so we meet up with her and had dinner. Got back to the spot right before 11pm. Didn't have a huge crowd to play for but felt like we entertained everybody. Some kids knew our song "Sub shop" but couldn't tell if the rest of the crowd liked it (LOL) but they liked the end. All the kids who bought CD's or T-shirts had real kind words made the show feel bigger. Out the blue I realized a couple friends from Minnesota who had moved out to AZ came out to the show. Abdul & Tessa, we chopped up old stories and they brought us back to there crib and cooked us tacos at 3am. It was the shit we watched David Chappells "Block party" till 4am then we hit the road for Cali.
3/21 Whttier, CA ...We played Whittier college's Psy-circus daytime outdoor campus fest. Last year these kids made us party so hard I was getting tired just thinking about the after party. Weather was a little cloudy but the sun popped out right before we played. The show was hella fun to play a couple hundred kids chilling outside on grass. Kids@Whittier are fresh they made us do an encore and we weren't even the headliner. Grieves and Lucky Iam of the Living Legends played after us. Our Friend Gabe (DJ 2GB from St Paul) was also playing at the circus so after the show we went out and got a 50 inch pizza and watched America's most wanted. We ate all the pizza and Fundo didn't even do his part. We later went to a after party where the police sent the ghetto bird helicopter to break up the party.
3/23 Portland, OR ... Since we didn't have a show yesterday we drove to San Fran and hung out with my friends Nomi (Power struggle) and MK. We drove all around the city for fun. Fundo actually got up pretty quick the next morning and we hit the road. Long drive. When we got to Portland the promoter BJ and the venue hooked us up with some food and we watched the Trail Blazer game with the Portland homies. 2 girls I went to high school with that now live in Portland Alice and Helen came out to hang and that was real fresh. 2 dudes we met doing shows out in Montana (both named Arron) came out also. The other rappers on the bill we're real cool to us and we went on around 1am. I think we showed everybody a good time. Playing Portland was one of the funner moments on the trip.
3/24 Jackson hole, WY ... We had to wake up at 7:30am. Fundo was like a zombie walking to the car. Long drive. Jackson is a small ski town city in the middle of the mountains on WY, drive down the mountain was scary. .... I mean I wasn't scared but you know Josh was ..... Fundo slept through it. Gas there is only $1.60 a gallon cheapest we've seen so far. The venue packed full of people and Fundo had a good vibe going off the wheels getting people to dance but for the 1st time on the tour I felt like I didn't preform good, I mean we did ok but I felt like I wasn't reading the crowds energy right? We didn't have anyone watching the product and someone stole a t-shirt. Would have put me in a bad mood but the homie Nick that booked us the show brought us back to the crib and made us some good ass biscuits and gravy..... the other promoter Mike also took care of us with a little cheese and food at the venue. Hopefully I'll get back to Jackson to avenge myself. On the way to Fargo we hit a drastic ass blizzard.
3/26 Fargo, ND .... due to the floods that are hitting Northdakota our show in Fargo has been canceled. Pray that everyone comes out ok up there.
