Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

Shameless plug I know but wouldn't it' be amazing if it happened!

DrunkenWerewolf readers, get a b&w copy of Issue #9 posted to your door for £2.00 to any British address or £3.00 internationally.
The issue includes an interview with folk band Mumford & Sons in celebration of their recent debut Sigh No More, and fellow rising stars Cherbourg. We've also caught up with Cardiff's The Victorian English Gentlemens Club and Brighton's Esben & the Witch. As an extension of Issue #8's AUS101 synopsis, we've interview Melbourne's Cuthbert & the Night Walkers, and continued the column with IRE101, an exploration into the Irish music scene, and NM101, an exploration into the New Mexican music scene. In addition to all of this, we have a face-off with The Ethical Debating Society and An Axe, and Emily Stern talks to Venus Bogardus' Hannah Levbarg about her involvement in various feminist projects.
For more information and to get yourself a copy, go here - http://drunkenwerewolf.livejournal.com/111641.html
Did you get my email about Issue #10 and your 500 words on something or someone that has influenced your music?
Aaand, do you want to play DW's 5th Birthday party on November 28th? It's up here in Liverpool, in our basement. I'd really be so happy if you could play it, I think my head would explode!
A 4 track EP, titled Call Signs, it provides the perfect introduction to the band prior to the release of their debut album, Grappling Hooks, in early 2010.
You can hear samples from all 4 EP tracks on the NAO Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/naoband
The stars arranged themselves in pairs With colors their steps arose upon the stairs Each waking moment another light is born Capturing the essence of another brilliant morn.
In time and space and there in between A year that comes and goes is no more to be seen Worlds without end arise and disappear And wisdom plays upon the harp to hear
Songs that open doorways to the heart A cascade of visions sharing every part Revealing all connections to be told With a sudden rush of daring to be bold.
In an instant the change Comes over you complete Like a herd upon the range Thoughts turn from empty to replete
For out of nothing the something shall come forth And in that moment you will know you are the one
