"that fella in class that used to draw, and never said much cause half of what he saw... was so far from that place you wanna be... that words only fucked it up more... follow me?" -andre 3000

-Dan Brown, Good Times Magazine, July 20th, 2005 "...and Kemizt's flow in particular is frequently hypnotic..."

"Whatever your opinion is on the health of Hip-Hop, it’s become nearly impossible to ignore the class of artists that have risen, essentially out of nowhere, prepared to introduce themselves to the world on behalf of Her. Unsigned hype and mixtape-only artists seem to be snagging contracts left and right, and the pressure is on them to perform. This surge of formerly unsigned talent speaks for scores of other artists hoping to release the right song or mixtape at the right time and jumpstart their own careers. Long Island native Jordan “Kemizt” Hartley is doing just that—looking for an open door; one that’s been shut in his face numerous times before. Known formerly as one half of the rap duo ReKon, rave music reviews and talk of a contract ended abruptly when Kemizt’s father, the duo’s manager, was killed in 2005. Kemizt started working independently just over a year ago after several mixtape releases with partner Ayindé. His first solo project, The Vigil, gives old fans the same dark and raw content he’s known for and allows newcomers an intimate entrance into his creative process—brutally honest and pure. His lyricism is of such depth that one might consider it an unwelcome reality check. Kem’s music is reminiscent of a conversation with oneself overheard by hidden listeners in the next room. It’s intensely personal and nearly impossible to divert attention from. The Vigil promises to bring activity back on the radar for NY artists positioning the island as the new stomping ground for east coast Hip-Hop and to re-introduce Kemizt to the industry—and to himself."

Yeah MySpace has changed a lot. Facebook is where most people are investing their time in. I'm more of an alternative indie rock kinda chick. But I'm open to all music.
