KEMOPETROL
Kemopetrol, one of the national treasures of Finnish pop/rock music, is back with a new, stunning album TELEPORT. This time Kemopetrol steps forward with big, heavenly sound, warm melodies and self-confident compositions. Teleport introduces ten new songs, each one a sparkling masterpiece you want to listen over and over.
Led by songwriter Kalle Koivisto, Kemopetrol was formed in the concrete suburbs of Helsinki in 1998. Kalle, a huge fan of classic 80s pop anthems, insists that the band was formed to be an industrial ambient project. Singer Laura Närhi joined the group a year later and since then, Kemopetrol have established themselves as one of Finland's most popular and important pop/rock acts.
Kemopetrol's sound - characterized by Lauras sensual vocal presence and their strong visual audioscapes - quickly gained them a following among hip university students all over Finland. Their first single Child Is My Name was a huge hit on the then newly formed indie label PLASTINKA. The debut album Slowed Down astounded Finlands major music critics who immediately praised the first born as being the best and most significant debut album in years , frighteningly excellent and magically beautiful. No wonder the album soon reached gold status and earned Kemopetrol a Finnish Grammy for Best New Pop/Rock act in 2001.
With the albums Everythings Fine and Play For Me the band continued to grow and push out more and more musical boundries. The strong melodies and hypnotic grooves, such a trademark of their sound, mixed with the oft ironic, oft idealistic, but always poignant content of Kalles lyrics.
Always remaining the music critics press darlings, the Finnish public loved the band too. Both albums went gold and Top 10 in Finland and the video for My Superstar spent an amazing 10 weeks in MTVs Up North Top 10 in 2005. If you have a Siemens mobile phone, you may have seen it - the clip was pre-installed on millions of mobiles throughout the world.
