If anything I prove that you can do still do it however old you are, there is life after 40..and the rest lol!
These have been the best times of my musical life and the internet has played a big part in that, you yourself wouldn't be reading this were it not for the cyber revolution that has delivered artists to new audiences. We can now find each other, players and listeners, wherever in the world we are..
I wrote the following a couple of years ago but it still holds true to this day:
"I've been writing songs, on and off, for over 30 years, and performing them, off and on, for nearly as long. If I'd have followed the conventional path then I should have never started again after I stopped in 1984, a burned out commercial and artistic failure following my times on Factory and Cherry Red records. But, a few years later, not only did the will to do it come back, I was also a far better artist, with a far better grasp of melody, lyrics and performance.
Today I still feel I have got some kind of passion and vision, constantly exploring new insights that I can express in my songs. I've always said that I try to fill a hole in music, doing something that isn't done by anyone else, that isn't catered for by the normal music biz. It's real, it's sincere and it's here, if anybody wants it..and if not I'm doing it anyway - I have to, need to..and, hopefully, I can communicate elements of both the personal and the universal..and..saying as that hole in music still needs filling I'd like to have a go at filling it.."
The only thing I'd add to that today,in 2006,is I now realise that there's a lot of us are having a go at filling that hole in music,I feel part of a bigger whole, less isolated and insular than I was when I wrote the above.

I'm happy to announce that my new album "Songs From The Films Of David Lynch" is out now.
"Truly unsettling and perplexingly brilliant... testament to both the quality of Lynch’s soundtracks and Truax’s talents" - The Skinny
"Truax is paying homage to a kindred spirit with this album. It's the best kind of tribute – affectionate and respectful, but with its own quirks and imaginative leaps and its own distinct identity." -The Scotsman

I'm in a constant state of feeling like I should give up. Used to be that the feeling of the need to give up would be nicely juxtaposed by enough moments of awesomeness to make it all worthwhile, but they seem to have dwindled for the moment. Am in the middle of making an album, which sounds incredible, and in a fair world would really do something special, but I dunno :-)
All that said, life is, as you say equal parts awesome and awful. I don't think I'd have it any other way though...
Let me know if I can ever be of any assistance to you in fighting the good fight
We are playing at The Nursery Tavern, Coventry on 25th June with Wes Finch & The Dirty Band and Scattered Sons (featuring members of The Treehorns and Shackletons)
