Chisel down into the asphalt cacophony of New York, and deep in the bedrock you’ll come upon Kill Henry Sugar. Poised astride the epic timeline of life in the boroughs, Erik Della Penna and Dean Sharenow sketch moody musical portraits with what the Village Voice calls, “Cinematic gravitas.” Their ethic is subtle lines by modest means, employing a signature palette of drums, dobro, and voice to construct petulant yankee poetry—more Serpico than Grapes Of Wrath, more Olmstead than Moses.

In 2010, Kill Henry Sugar marks their tenth anniversary with HOT MESSIAH, a new collection of finely woven American tales. After an extended tour backing the legendary Joan Baez, Della Penna and Sharenow set up shop aboard a turn of the century Dutch flat barge, recording the bulk of the album moored on the shores of the Hudson River. The rustic setting proved a potent inspiration; HOT MESSIAH delves yet deeper into matters both historical and habitual, adding twelve new chapters to the band’s resonant archive of northeast nativity.

HOT MESSIAH will be released on Feb 27, 2010.
