Upon its release LACUNA COIL’s album “Shallow Life” - recorded with acclaimed producer Don Gilmore (Linkin Park, Pearl Jam) at the famed NRG Studios in Los Angeles - has marked the band’s highest Billboard chart entry, as well as the highest Billboard debut in the history of Century Media Records in the USA by hitting the US Billboard Top 200 charts at 16. “Shallow Life” also went straight into the official album charts in the following countries: Italy, Australia, UK, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Greece and Japan. The band once again scored cover features in influential European magazines such as Kerrang! and Big Cheese in the UK, Aardschock in Benelux, Rock Hard in France as well as lots of media love in their native Italy with features in XL and Vanity Fair as well as the covers of Metal Hammer, Rolling Stone and Rock Sound – just to mention a very few.
It is the first full-length studio album since the 2006 release “Karmacode” and undeniably a huge step forward in the band’s musical evolution. Cristina Scabbia (vocals) states: “’Shallow Life’ is a natural metamorphosis from within the band; we explored different musical territories while maintaining our own style. A mix of old and new, fast and slow and light and dark. The album production is incredibly powerful and has a beautiful purity to it. Hopefully listeners will feel the same sort of connection that we have to these songs. ‘Shallow Life’ has forced us to challenge ourselves. It represents the way we see ourselves in the days we live in through truth, love and lies.”
Before “Shallow Life”’s release LACUNA COIL introduced new songs to fans on the Australian Soundwave Festival that featured such diverse acts as Alice In Chains, Bloodhound Gang, Billy Talent, The Subways and Nine Inch Nails. Upon the album’s release the band debuted new songs when LACUNA COIL joined such hard rock titans as Disturbed and Killswitch Engage on the “Music As A Weapon IV” tour. Europe saw the band perform at prestigious festivals such as Download (UK), Rock In Idro (I), Nova Rock (A), Graspop and Summer Darkness (B/NL) and Wacken Open Air (D). Still, it was time to head back to North America with Kill Hannah, Seventh Void and Dommin for their first headlining tour for “Shallow Life”. Followed up in the fall of 2009 by the “HardDrive Live Tour” which saw the band handpicked by influential syndicated American radio program “HardDrive” to participate in their inaugural tour. As we come to January 2010 it is time once again for an extensive European headlining tour that will be supported by Dommin as well as Dirty Little Rabbits (featuring Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan from multi-platinum selling act Slipknot).
The American breakthrough for LACUNA COIL – whose moniker translates to “empty spiral“ in English – began with 2001‘s “Unleashed Memories” album. However, it was the runaway success of 2002‘s “Comalies” that became the foundation on which the band’s success was built. In early 2004, LACUNA COIL’s international successes were validated with an invitation to participate in that year’s Ozzfest, supporting such hard rock stalwarts as Disturbed, System of a Down and Ozzy himself. LACUNA COIL offered something unique to the package that ultimately struck a chord with fans, resulting in them being hailed as the year’s breakthrough artist. LACUNA COIL’s fourth full-length album “Karmacode” had a phenomenal first week in both Europe and the US, securing the 28 spot on the Billboard Top 200 charts in US, position 2 in UK’s rock album charts, Top 50 in the UK National Album Charts, as well as chart entries in Italy, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Greece, Finland, The Netherlands and even the United Arab Emirates. More than 40 magazines and newspapers worldwide, including Metal Hammer (UK, D, H, PL, GR, I), Rock Sound (UK & Italy), Revolver, Rolling Stone, Rock One, Sue, Aardschok, Rock Hard (D, GR, I) & Scream (N) featured the band on their covers.
After the enormous success of 2006’s Ozzfest tour in the States as well as triumphantly performing at various prestigious European summer festivals including a main stage slot at Download Festival, Graspop (NL), Rock Im Park & Rock Am Ring (both in Germany) as well as Heineken and MTV Day Festivals
in Italy before they returned to Europe for a run of headline shows, followed shortly afterwards by sold out US tours supporting Stone Sour and Rob Zombie. LACUNA COIL played selected and celebrated festivals like Bloodstock (UK), Pukkelpop and Lowlands (Benelux) and Wacken Open Air (D) before heading to Japan for a headline run culminating in a landmark performance at Loud Park festival before moving on to Australia as part of the multi-platinum selling artist Megadeth’s Gigantour. Still, they did not take any breaks and finalized their first ever DVD “Visual Karma (Body, Mind and Soul)” in 2008 before touring Europe and beginning the recording process for their current album “Shallow Life”.
In January 2010 it is high time for their first full European headlining tour in support of “Shallow Life”. LACUNA COIL will be supported by Dommin as well as Dirty Little Rabbits (featuring Shawn “Clown” Crahan from the multi-platinum selling band Slipknot). Dirty Little Rabbits will be direct support to Lacuna Coil on 7 shows, while Dommin will perform at all shows on the tour except for Ireland. Right for the tour the album will be released as a special double disc deluxe edition for the price of a single CD featuring alternative artwork, a disc full of rare and previously unreleased material (studio, acoustic and live tracks) and an extended booklet that is giving you lots of eye candy. At the same time their 3rd and brand-new videoclip from “Shallow Life”, “I Won’t Tell You” - filmed by the renowned Italian producer Saku, who previously directed “Spellbound” - will hit all relevant broadcast channels so you will not get a chance to miss LACUNA COIL in early 2010!
